Anyone used Adobe AfterFX before? I'm getting back into it after a couple years and I'm trying to do some effects matching to some existing video, and can't figure out one part of it after around an hour of putzing around.
It involves having a light source and text that has the light shine on it and place a shadow on the "ground" behind it. The problem is that the shadow only works if I make the original video affected by the light source, which causes parts of the original video to shadow out in the corners (which I don't want)
Is there a way to add an intermediary layer above the video that I can use to "catch" the shadow without making the original video affected by the light source as well?
I tried a null object and an adjustment layer and neither of those worked.
create your effect in a seperate file. Put in a layer above the movie. Use an alpha to hide what you dont want to be seen of the top layer so the bottom can show through.
Hmm still doesn't seem to be working. I nested Comp1 into Comp2 and tried every keying/matting technique I could find and it's not working correctly. I try to get it to remove just the red channel or color (my color I want to make transparent) and for some reason it always encroaches into the shadows as well.
I can't believe there isn't just some type of transparent layer that would just show up the shadows, or why I can't seem to get a simple color mask to work properly in this damn program.
