Wii split-screen goodness?

Me and my flatmate spent many a hour beating Halo 1 & 2 in split-screen mode, but now that we've gone the Wii route rather than 360... Can anyone recommend a game with some co-op goodness?

Soul Caliber Legends is split screen for some stupid fucking reason, but it's also awful. The Crash Bandicoot game for the Wii is actually pretty decent co-op, and the Metal Slug Anthology is loads of fun two player as well. Geometry Wars has co-op that's a blast, and I'm going to go ahead and say it:

Lego Star Wars is the best co-op game on any console right now due to it's play style. You need your partner to help and you need to help him.

Umbrella Chronicles is only fun multiplayer, and Zack and Wiki can be played with two people in a real loose sense. The new Trauma Center has some out of control co-op, but that's not really a pick up and play game, it helps if you're both familiar with the game play before you jump in.

    Did I miss anything?

There aren't really that many split-screen games besides Red Steel out on the Wii yet (*crossing fingers for Time Splitters 4 here*), but there are some great multiplayer games that you can play together with you buddy, like Super Mario Strikers Charged, Traum Center: New Blood, Metal Slug Anthology, Excite Truck or Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, along many others.

And then there's always the Virtual Console.

It's not split screen, but both Ghost Squad and the new trauma center have pretty good coop gameplay

Zack and Wiki can be fun to play together if you don't mind a slower-paced co-op experience. Player 2 can point at things or draw lines to suggest puzzle solutions. My spouse and I enjoy switching off as Player 1 to solve the kinds of puzzles that we're better at.

Mario Galaxy has a very laid back semi-co-op. Player two picks up star bits and can hassle enemies, or keep them locked in place while player one concentrates on platforming. Not great if the other person is looking to actually play a game, but it gives my wife something interesting to do while I monopolize the tv, so she really rather enjoys it.

Edit: Ghost Squad is quite fun. Just be aware, it's exceptionally short, and can be completed in about 30 minutes. But it's not really a game you play for length, so much as unlocking new paths, and the hilarious Party Mode.

It's not exactly a Wii game, but if you go get Timesplitters: Future Perfect for the GC, two GC controllers will allow you to play the campaign in co-op mode (which is actually pretty fun), and the vs. multiplayer can be a lot of fun and supports a decent of bots with 4-player split-screen. The game also has a pretty good sense of humor, so if you dig disco robots and zombie/ninja/cyborg monkeys, you'll dig it.

Oh god yes, the Timesplitters series is gold for multiplayer. Me and my old roommate could play the co-op on that a lot.

That there is enough for me to forego Ghost Squad entirely. I'm not one to assign value depending on the length of time I can play it, but I like to keep my time-played-to-money-spent at at least a cinema ratio: £7 per 1.5 hours. No way I'm shelling out £30 for a 30 minute game. Of course, if the replay value is golden, that's a different matter entirely.

We've got Super Mario Galaxy, and have both enjoyed it with our respective significant others - and even jumped in when the other is playing - but it's not really the coop experience we're looking for. I'm kind of disapointed in the lack of Wii FPS' - especially split-screen ones.

I might end up picking up Umbrella Chronicles simply because it's the closest we're going to get...

There's always Alien Syndrome. I hear it's pretty poor in singleplayer, but in co-op it actually starts to be a whole lot of fun.

Metroid 3 is one of the best FPS games on any system out their right now. It's not multiplayer, but it's solid gold and the controls are phenomenal.

I think I've played the full game about 15 to 20 times now, and I still haven't unlocked all the paths, let alone the costumes and guns. At about 30 minutes a playthrough, that's roughly 10 hours, and I know I'll be coming back to it over and over.

Edit: I should mention, the multiplayer is actually 4 player co-op, which is damn near impossible to find.

Really? Okay, that sounds a whole lot better. I'll have to give this a look. Cheers!

Eledees or Elebits depending on what country you're in! Very fun multiplayer. Red Steal does split screen but it's pretty crap.

I love Ghost Squad. It's awesome.

Every time you beat one of the 3 missions with a certain degree of success, you increase your "level" for that mission. As the "levels" increase for each mission, you unlock new pathways. Not only that, but each path way often contains new mission objectives, or at least new ways of achieving the same objective for that area. As you keep levelling up, it starts increasing the difficulty for each branch. So now not only do you have to clear this room of terrorists, but now there are hostages in the way. So now that you not only have to defeat this terrorist in hand hand combat, but you have 2 critical areas to target instead of just one each time. Stuff keeps getting added, like that.

As you level, you also unlock new costumes and such to add hilarity or awesome to the cutscenes. But you also unlock new weapons, which have varying degrees of usefulness. And there are tons of new weapons.

There's also a couple of sort of target/training mission optional minigames in there, too. And finally, a 4 player party mode, and Ninja mode.

If you enjoy light gun shooters, it's worth $30. I've replayed its 3 mission campaign more times than I care to think of. It's really enjoyable.

If you're a high-score nut, it helps to look up how to achieve the highest scores on Gamefaqs. For example, you get much higher scores for plugging enemies twice in the torso and once in the head. Getting head shots gives you 'good shot' points, and shooting enemies as soon as they appear give you 'quick shot' points. Also defeating areas in as little time as possible much increases your score. Stuff like that.

If you want an alternative type of lightgun shooter, Resident Evil UC has a lot more meat and a lot more content. But it's not a traditional arcadey light gun shooter. It really achieves a Resident evil atmosphere.. and you have to be concerned with ammo and health conservation during the game. It encourages you to take the effort to pinpoint your shots rather than going trigger happy. This is also a truly great game. But it's also $50, so, there's that.

A played through RE:UC with a friend and it was a blast. Took us about 5-6 hours for the three main stories, but then more and more side-stories started being unlocked, and more weapons, and we started getting into hunting down all the files...

Also, if you play it on Hard with the lights off it gets pretty damn tense. The Resi 3 part especially - navigating through the subway by flashlight? SCREAMS. Ammo conservation becomes critical, as does shouting out "RELOADING COVER ME OH CHRIST OH CHRIST".

So yeah. For co-op, it's worth the cash.

Yeah, it's a real meaty game for a "rail shooter." It may be on rails, and involve shooting, but it's not like the games you play in the arcades.

Also, ammo conservation isn't just important for shooting down oncoming enemies. It's important to save up ammo to take down bosses more quickly and easily. Shooting down bosses with saved up ammo not only helps you survive (and thus prevent a reload, thus increasing your Time rank), but it also kills the boss more quickly, which also increases your Time rank.

I should note that some of the final unlockable levels require you to get an A rank of some of the preceding levels; which, while not too too hard, is a lot easier if you have levelled up weapons. Also, the key thing is using grenades strategically (for enemies hits) and you've simply got to grab as many Files as possible.
