Replacing old iPod with a new one

Ok, this is hopefully an easy one. I have the last generation iPod, and i was looking to pick up a newer one this week.
Firstly, I assume that I can plug my new iPod into the computer and my iTunes library will automatically transfer to the new one. Is this correct?
Secondly, how do I reset my old one? I was planning on giving it to my sister, and so would like to clear the songs off and reset it without having to delete my library or whatever.

I appreciate the help.

Yes your iTunes Library will still transfer to the new iPod.

To restore your old iPod just plug it in to the computer on the iTunes screen that displays your iPod click the option to restore. This should reset your iPod to the factory settings.
