Trying to find a song title from lyrics

Years ago while being driven to the airport a song was playing on a mixed cd and it was about this guy and his girlfriend and the guy was kind of granola and the girl was alternative and it's about their relationship. The bit I remember is toward the end of the song the singer (male) talks about how they "cried when Kurt Cobain died". In the song he refers to the girlfriend as "alternaty" or some spelling thereoff.

I have no idea who the group was and have tried googling it a few times. Looking for help identifying the song. It might be a punkish band because the girl that made the cd was really into punk.

What genre was the song? I'm assuming its some rock song. The only song with those references that I could think of was "Californication" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But I don't think that's what you were looking for.

That was the first thing I found that I thought might be what the OP was talking about. But it really doesn't match up that well with what he's remembering. So unless he's remembering wrong, or if he's reading way more into the lyrics than is there, or if there's a video that gets laid out more like what he's remembering, I don't think this is it.

I didn't have any luck finding something that matches what you're looking for. Either my googling is weak today, or perhaps it's an extremely underground/indie/local hit.

Might help if you could give us a more definite idea of when this was. Mid 90s? Late 90s? Early 2000s?

And I am guessing you can't call or email or myspace/facebook this girl that made the CD to ask?

Also, what genre was it, even? The closest you came was saying it "might" be a punkish band.

Damn... kudos on the gigantic list Raneados... even if none of them were it, that was an impressively large compilation of potentials. If it's not on that list, perhaps it was by a local band, or some band that's otherwise so unknown that it wouldn't pop up on anyone's radar?

well... also doesn't really match all that well with your description, but has some of the same themes and mentions cobain...

Son of Dork - Murdered in the Mosh

but... nevermind on that now because you said 2002, so it couldn't have been that anyway... hmm

yeah... I'm definitely thinking this was a probably local/unknown group. I'd suggest going with starmanbrand and seeing if it's possible to contact the person that had the mix cd at all.

A mix CD, made by a girl who was 'into punk', heard years ago.. I'd really suggest trying to contact said girl again. This could easily be some small, local punk band that nobody has ever heard of outside of, well, pick a random state.
