New PS3 - Recommendations from the PS Store (casual games)?
I've finally took the plunge into the next gen of gaming and got a PS3. What would people recommend for some simple casual games from the Playstation Store? Co-op would be nice for me and the gf but not necessary.
At my friends with the 360, I like to play Geometry Wars and if I got a 360 I'd get that and Bomberman and Pacman but none of those are available on the PS3. What do you have and like?
Super Stardust HD is kinda like Geometry Wars, in that you shooting with your Right Analogue stick. flOw is a nice, relaxing game. I screwed about a bit playing Calling All Cars with my sister, it wasn't bad.
Everyday Shooter is basically Geometry Wars with a...what's the term, "generative" soundtrack? Like Rez, kinda, but with guitars. fl0w is also worth checking out: it's short, and kinda pointless, but PURDY, and just oddly compelling.
For what it's worth, you could take a screenshot from any part of either of these games and make a pretty stylin' t-shirt out of them.
Yeah try the SuperStardust HD demo it has coop. To be honest though the PS store could use some more casual games that don't involve motion control or the EYE. (Boardgames and old arcade game that XBLA has)
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
-SSHD and Everyday Shooter are both fantastic shmups. ES in particular is pretty awesome because of the way it correlates music with the gameplay.
-flOw is an awesome experience, I totally recommend it.
-It doesn't get any more casual than Pain.
-I've played CAC a few times. It's fun but not really my style. It would probably help if I had people to play with. Definitely worth it if you're playing with the GF.
Thanks for the advice. I've been more following the larger releases(uncharted, RaC, etc) to really even know what was on the PS Store. I'd played fl0w before on the PC so I know what it's like. I wish there was more arcade games like Live as well.
I'll check out Super Stardust HD and Everyday Shooter. I just spent almost $500 so what's another $10-15 in casual games.
There's a new PSN game coming out this week, PixelJunk Monsters, that looks really fun. Simple strategy game with nice graphics. Might be worth picking up.

There's an English demo out on the JPN PSN store. Fun as hell and sealed the deal on Thursday for me. Pixeljunk racers is OK but it can be really hard to get used to racing such tiny slot cars.
I'd recommend downloading the demos for Super Stardust, Pixeljunk Racers and Monsters, and looking into Everyday Shooter. Those are really the only four games I've really been interested in on PSN.
Don't forget the PS1 games, like Crash, Spyro, Twisted Metal, and SotN.
Been a PS owner since the first so I've played / still have a couple of the Crash and Spyro games. I get your point though. Need to watch for coming classics.
Super Stardust HD is a really, really cool DAS. However, it's not so fun multiplayer because of the world sphere mechanic. Too often, on multiplayer you find both people just sitting in one spot for a long period of time. For multiplayer DAS I liked Blast Factor better. It's not as compelling as others for some reason, but it's the best one for multiplay. Of course single player, Everyday Shooter blows everything out the water (including Geometry Wars). Everyday Shooter is fun even just passing the controller back and forth.
I bought Calling All Cars when it dropped in price. It's short and repetitive, but still pretty dang fun in short bursts, I mean multiplayer of course. Definitely worth the price. It has a neat comic art style that I like too.
I just grabbed Pixel Junk Monsters last night. WOW, that is a blast to play! Multiplayer is great fun too. It has some RTS-like elements but it's pretty different. Instead of gathering wood and then building stuff, you convert trees directly to structures. You can upgrade your towers with gems that drop, or you can have your guy stand there and work on it. The cool thing multiplayer is that you can both work on a tower to upgrade it faster. Or you can give eachother specific tasks like "I'll just upgrade, you gather money and build." It has a lot of the fun of an RTS without being tedious. I was up till 4am playing it, and I'm already hoping for some add-ons.

If you have people to play against, I enjoy Calling All Cars but others have slammed it.

Also, my gf loves Super Rub a Dub. Admittedly I find it kind of neat.
