So I'm hearing noise that McCain might have scuttled the debate because he couldn't be at the location that night.

Ah, never mind, it was over a planned ABC debate in Tampa.

I'm planning to watch atleast one debate on t.v. instead of youtubing it later.

I look forward to Ron Paul saying sensible things and the other idiots responding with the regular Republican rhetoric.

I may or may not get drunk playing a drinking game to it. I haven't decided yet.

So how will McCain fuck up tonight. All the other leaders have found a way to self-destruct isn't it his turn?

The only slightly sensible things Ron Paul says are regarding foreign policy.

I'm thinking this debate will center more on the economy.

Paul is nothing approaching sensible regarding the economy.

my friend had the best idea: a reverse drinking game where the candidate has to take a shot every time he says one of his too-frequent phrases

e.g. john edwards has to take a shot whenever he mentions his father, or uses the word "mill" or any variation thereof

and then by the end of the debate all of the candidates are either totally sloshed or have been forced to diversify their rhetoric, and wither outcome would be hilarious

Eh, you know they're going to talk about balancing the budget and cutting spending while spending trillions ramping up the war.

I put forward Paul will still probably be the most rational debater.

I suppose I am too. I can't say I particularly care, but it's probably worth watching the development of the McCain rhetoric if he's the winner, or the self destruction if he ends up losing.

Don't forget cutting taxes for the rich and big time corporations.

Paul IS the most rational one of them, which is hysterical/depressing at the same time.

Well the popular GOP battlecry is that Democrats are tax and spend. They blow the money on "pork" which is stupid crap for their own gain. So instead of finding a way to cut out the pork, the GOP believe the best way is to cut government funding for special programs all together....so they can give tax cuts to rich people (themselves). They're literally selling poverty to working class stiffs who don't understand that they're being fleeced. The last 8 years have empirically proven Reagonomics to be a lie.

(Sinking money into Iraq hasn't helped, but considering the only way the GOP can stay in power is to play the same "be afraid of t3h turi'rists!" they can't throttle back now, which is and will be their undoing.)

Still a better situation than no taxes and a completely limited government.

Ron Paul is taking Reaganomics to it's logical extremity. If it's not working now, how does what he's doing make more sense?

Send checks to everyone that pays income tax, between $300 and $1200 depending on family size. Also, cut the corporate tax.

The same plan that's been floating around (pretty close to Obama's).

$300+ to anyone that earned at least $3000 last year. $300 per child, up to $1200 per household. Expanded (temporarily) unemployment benefits and food stamps. The last was trade in exchange for some business boondoggles, bsically tax write offs for equipment and some other stuff. Price tag of about 150 billion.
