New Applications of the Wiimote

For those of you who haven't watched it yet, Tycho recently posted a Youtube video of a guy who is making some extremely interesting computer-based applications for the Wiimote- from head tracking to Minority Report-style interaction with a computer (imagine the iPhone multitouch system, but in thin air).

This is some amazing stuff. He even puts out an open call to developers to use these new ideas to make games. You don't even need a Wii to do this stuff- just a Wiimote and a Bluetooth adapter for your PC.

I highly recommend you watch all three videos on his page. I haven't had a "Holy Shit thats cool" moment like this since the first time I watched the Portal trailer

It's interesting how many uses it has, though not many seem to have practical applications.

Indeed, it's popped up in the Technology forums on countless occasions. It's very cool but doesn't quite need repeating this many times :)

Being Wii-homebrew seems to actually be on the horizon now though (after a recent hackers conference where a poc demonstration was shown, a Wii booting homebrew and displaying remote information) we might be seeing some of these come out on the console itself.

I think maybe it doesn't have practical applications yet because nobody's tried to make any.

Yeah, that was fucking amazing. I can't wait for it to show up in games.
