Im wondering if White Wolf still has say over whats done with their old WoD material. I want to set a comic Im in the proces of developing in the world but I need to know if I need their approval or if I can just go on with it. Thanks for any answers.
I don't know about this specific instance, but companies usually don't go giving up IP rights when they stop making products based on the IP. So most likely you are going to need permission from them.

Yeah, unless you really need it to be set in their world for some reason, I wouldn't bother. I mean, if you don't intend to sell it then it's not a problem, but acquiring the license to be able to sell it is most likely going to be a pain in the ass and a big expense. So it depends on how much your comic actually depends on their setting.
Given that WW/CCP is still developing new WoD products, it’s a safe assumption that the company still owns the rights to all the old WoD material. So if you plan to release a comic based on it, for free or otherwise, you will need permission to do so; for WW to protect it’s trademarks on WoD stuff it is legally obligated to take action against people who release works without permission.
