Excessive underarm sweat

For the past 7 months or so, I've noticed that I've been sweating excessively in the armpit area and I can't figure out why. At first I chalked it up to the abnormally hot summer we had here in WI, but as it has progressed through fall and now winter without letting up, I'm wondering if there might be something wrong with me internally.

My extra perspiration is in both underarms and only my underarms. No feet, no palms, no head, no nothing elsewhere. I haven't changed deodorants, body wash or laundry detergents. My diet and activity (or lack thereof) hasn't changed, and I'm under no considerable stress either at work or at home. I sweat regardless of shirt type (or lack thereof), and loose, lights shirts and tighter, heavier shirts still make me sweat. So far, there is absolutely no odor. I can stick my face in my pits and take a big whiff and it smells like, well, armpits. I don't feel excessively warm, and it even happens when I'm relaxing at home watching tv.

I've googled some and apparently it's called axillary hyperhidrosis, but I'm not sure that's why I have as it often involves unpleasant odor and is a lifetime-long issue.

Has anyone else suffered from or know about this issue? I'm not a fan of sweating while just sitting around doing nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Try trimming or shaving entirely your armpit hair. I used to have this in the summer, where if I did anything that caused me to sweat *at all*, my armpits would be wet for the rest of the day. I solved it by shaving off the hair.

In the wintertime it's not much of an issue for me, but as soon as that first warm day comes around, a trim & shave happens on the weekends. But it still happens in the wintertime, if I go for a walk and then sit at my work desk the rest of the day, or something similar. Doesn't matter if I'm feeling cold or warm, once they get damp they'll stay wet. And, just like you, it doesn't smell, it's just wet (and unattractive if I'm only wearing a single layer).

So try that, and see if it works. I find that armpit hair grows more slowly and you can typically save it up for the weekend.

Being a sweaty motherfucker myself, I feel your pain. Fortunately, I have the answer. Certain Dri is the greatest fucking thing ever invented.

Under normal circumstances I sweat as soon as it breaks 65-70 degrees even just sitting still. I constantly need to replace shirts because the armpits just get ruined by sweat. Then one day I tried Certain Dri. I put that shit on at night, go to the gym the next day and run 4-5 miles and walk out of there with perfectly dry armpits. I would have its baby.

Occasionally you can find it at walmart. I think their website claims a bunch of places sell it, but I rarely see it. You can also order it from amazon, you get raped compared to buying it in a store due to shipping, but it's worth it imo.

I used to get this, a couple of years ago. I could literally feel it dripping off my armpits down my sides on occasion. Then, one day it just stopped, I chalked it down to being a teenager.

How old are you? It could be hormones.

You could also try switching deodorants to see if that helps. In my experience, my armpits seem to build up a resistance to a given deordorant over time, so the deodorant becomes less effective over time (from a sweat-reducing perspective - I have never noticed an odor). I have no idea if what I'm describing is a real thing, but every deodorant I have ever used has decreased in usefullness over time. Right now I use Degree Sport, and it seems to work okay. I have two other types at home, which I uses either A) after getting home from the gym or B) on weekends. I know it may sound crazy, but I'd swear that switching them up on a very routine basis extends the time it takes for the deodorant to stop being useful.

You might also look at the kind of deodorant you are using - I have never had any success at all with the clear gels - almost any white stick will be more effective.

I'm 28, caucasian, 5'7" and 150ish pounds. I'm in pretty good shape and while diabetes and thyroid problems run in my family, I've been tested for both and came back negative on both accounts.

I have some Axe deodorant that I had sitting around and I've tried it several times (including consecutive days) with no luck. Good idea though.

Have you seen the fish advert? You could get a statue...

You could try something other than Axe. Is it even an antiperspirant?

Dude, I will second Certain Dri! I'll keep it short, but I used to have the problem with the pits, and the shirts, etc. This product works very well. I pick it up at CVS and have been using it for more than a year. The only thing is, I would recommend the real deal. I tried getting the generic version and that thing burned like demon hellfire if I used more than a little bit. Check it out before you consider surgery. You put it on before you go to bed and wash it off and use regular deodorant/antiperspirant during the day.

    Mitchum antiperspirant. Antiperspirant. ANTIPERSPIRANT.

It's pretty much the real deal and it smells damn fine.

Yeah, one thing I notice is people keep saying Deoderant, which does not stop sweating. Only makes you smell pretty. Use antiperspirant, which usually uses a form of aluminum to plug your sweat glands. If you have no adverse reactions to aluminum, use one with a higher % per volume. Look for 17% or higher.

On the other hand, if you are allergic to it and your pits itch excessively, look for one as low as possible, I use 6% Gilette that doesn't stop me from sweating completely, but works better than nothing.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. I use the terms interchangeably, but I do know the difference. My Old Spice and Axe products are both deodorants and antiperspirants.

    Thread over.

Seriously, this stuff is the answer. I had the same problem, and now I'm hard pressed to even have sweaty armpits after lifting at the gym.

Go out, buy some tonight, and apply it before you go to bed. Continue each night, and your problem will be gone in about a week.

You will get to the point where you only need to put it on every few days or so. Sometimes I go a week without putting it on, and I'm still fine.

They speak the truth. I have been using this stuff for 6 years. The extra-awesome part is that you only have to replace it, like, every 6 months.

I use Mitchum as my everyday and the Secret "prescription strength" every other night. I think it has the same ingredients as Certain Dri, but it smells like girl! The combination of the two seems to control my ... excessive issue.

For some reason, I laughed out loud with joy/amusement upon reading that. Something about the placement of it had a little sprinkle of awesome. =)

I believe Toad said something like this once in fact. "Take Certain Dri. Its contents will help you on your way."

It may have been "a box", but whatever.
