Selling eBooks on eBay?

I just accidentally bought an eBook copy of I am Legend due to not really reading the smallprint on an eBay auction before hitting buy (when I found out I proceeded to buy a paperback copy).

How do people justify selling eBooks? They can be replicated free of charge, they don't own the copyright, surely eBay can stop this. I just plain don't get why it happens. I can see the benefits for the seller though, 100% profit. But..damn.

Unless I'm missing the point and this is, somehow, legal.

(I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for the topic, it seemed the most suitable).

The owner's resell rights are figured out when they purchase the ebook. It's a little different from other digital media, but there's nothing especially slimy about it.

How is it pure-profit if he/she had to purchase the e-book in the first place?

So if I asked a seller on ebay to prove they have resell rights on the book, would this be possible?

I'm just a little curious on how it all works. I mean it's still very easy for the seller to make 1,000 copies of the eBook and just reply to any message with "Uhh, yeah I gots me some licenses".

edit - The pure profit thing is me assuming it's not legal and these people are just letting people download multiple copies of something the seller doesn't own in the first place.

I really should have been listening to you when you started going on about it behind me. In future, I will be in charge of all Ebay related activities until you learn how to use the internet.

    Silly boy.
