I have an odd problem with my 60gb PS3. If I go to any of the settings options from the XBM, it freezes. For instance, I go to select "theme settings" and then the XBM freezes. I can still hold down the PS button and make the system shut down and such. Also, if I turn off the system via the main switch on the back, I am access those menus just fine the first time I switch it back on. I can still access the settings with a hard shutdown but its certainly odd and a little bit of an inconvenience, should I be concerned and is there any fix for this?

When did you buy it? I'd send that mofo back.
There are some games (AC) that having freezing problems, but I haven't heard of problems with the menu.
Sadly returning it is not an option. Is there any way to start a reformat without going through the settings menu? Now the settings freeze every time, what an odd problem.

Guess you coud get another HDD and give it a try. Just pull out the old one and slap in the new. Think you can still return open harddrives w/out "restocking" fee?
Do you know anyone else who has a PS3? Any chance it's a controller issue?
I've never even heard of anyone having this problem. I'd definitely try a fresh hard drive, when you put in a blank one I believe it autoformats.
Why can't you return it? Worst case is you can send it to Sony for repairs and pay the $150 or whatever to get your $600 console fixed. (I'd call that worth it for a PS3 with hardware BC, assuming you don't have a PAL unit)
