New to these forums. Just wondering what this community's outlook, reaction, and input are for Darkfall Online's projected game design. Please note that I am not asking whether you believe Darkfall is vaporware; instead, I am asking for this community's opinion on Darkfall's planned social and economic structure and overall game design.
If you are not familiar with Darkfall, you can visit the main website and FAQ at the following links:
Looking forward to hearing your responses. If you've any questions, I'm a bit of a forum troll over there (understatement of the year) and I'll be able to provide most answers, I think.
By the way, I tried to use the forum search feature to see if other threads exist for this topic, but no matter how I tried, I couldn't use search. If an apt thread already exists, please let me know. Thanks.
Just to give you a heads up, you will, without a doubt, be called a shill in this thread. I'm willing to give you the benefit of a doubt, but if you want the most out of this thread I suggest making a name for yourself on the forums. People will be much warmer towards you if you show your here for something besides just whoring.

Whoring? That's a fairly harsh term for it. Exploiting... maybe.
I just wanted some different viewpoints on it, that's all. I've been reading PA for a very long time, but for some reason I never thought to visit the forums. Then the other day I was reading PA, buddy of mine mentioned something about Darkfall over Ventrilo, and those two very distant dots connected and I wondered what this community's input would be.
I can understand all responses concerning Darkfall's vaporware...ness. It has been in production for a very long time. I've still got my fingers crossed, though, because the developers are still making journals, providing feedback and updated screenshots and information, etc. They are answering direct questions from the forum, and lots of them. Of course, they are not surprisingly dodging any specifics on a release date since they have been rightfully engulfed in the past for failing to meet said dates.
I remember first hearing about Darkfall back in 2000/2001 when I was playing on Darktide and it supposedly had some people from a monarchy on DT working on it.
It's now 2008.
It is never, ever, ever, ever coming out.
Everytime someone brings it up it makes me hurt a little that people are still dumb enough to even care about this definitive vaporware title at all.

The community didn't exactly impress me after their run in with Scott Jennings.
I'm pretty upset that the website is pretty much set at a really pathetic resolution. I'm running at 1680x1050 the entire right half of my browser is filled with black while the site looks rather...squished together.
I was really interested in this game eight years ago. So frankly, I really don't care what they have planned, promise to include or already have developed, because more likely than not none of it will ever exist anyways.

The developers are still releasing updated information, screenshots, and videos. They are answering slews of questions pulled directly from Q&A threads in the forums. This is hardly symptomatic of 'definitive vaporware.'
Whether the game will ever be released before all their funding is exhausted is a viable question. But due to the consistant feedback the developers have been providing, Darkfall can hardly be called vaporware.

Oh, do tell?
He pointed out the flaws that will happen when you do a hardcore PvP game. In return the community flooded his blog with drooling moron comments. For those who don't know who he is, he was a developer for UO and DAOC.

Yes it is actually. Developers who are doing that are not coding. There is a reason CM positions exist.

They run a very tight operation. Not every dev team has a Blizzard budget. The developers have made it quite clear that they put in extra hours to maintain community contact.
Also, if you want to talk about specifics like that, I suggest you familiarize yourself with them first.

I'm aware they don't have Blizzards budget. I'm also aware that they've been trying to do this project for seven years with a somewhat shadowy backer. Look into the history of Darkfall's funding. It's...odd at best. I follow Darkfall mostly because I'm hoping we find out what their funding source is and it's something amusing like a scam to cover arms dealing.

So basically they proved him right?
"It's hard to keep a community strong and prosperous when you cater to their basest of instincts and inspire them to be assholes."
"We disagree, and as such, will be barbaric assholes!"
I looked Darkfall up on wikipedia a few months back during the great "PVP or Carebear" flame war of 2007, and it's cearly not for me. I can appreciate people trying to do something new, but even I (an impartial outsider) can say that 7+ years (several of them without the promised "soon to be beta") is pretty vapoury.

Well the Darkfall community has had a distilling effect. Any large size group will have assholes. When you add competition to it, then you exaggerate that trait. Then you add a few years for the sane people to move onto things that aren't likely to be vaporware and you're left with distilled asshole. It's the culmination of every exaggerated PvPer stereotype taken to the extreme. Speak out about the game? Then clearly you don't know anything. Contradict them at all and it becomes a holy war.
The comparison with DNF is interesting at least. 3D realms at least has a track record of making games. This is a development house that doesn't.

That was winter 2005. Still waiting for the beta.

Therefore I've already lost interest. Again.

Still no betas of any kind.

Which asks the question. Which one of those will be released first?
