Thats only one of MP 2's endings.

Max Payne 2 alternate ending spoiler:
If you beat the game on the hardest difficulty, Mona lives.

Yeah, but that's the shitty ending. I was so disappointed when I got to the alternate ending and got... that.

I love the original ending. It's very bittersweet and happy and sad both at the same time. For Max, I thought it was a very, very fitting conclusion to the story and I don't really see where else they could take it for a sequel. And there hasn't been one, for which I am pretty grateful.

Totally, 100 percent agree. The original ending is worlds more downtempo and fitting, and since the game's narrative is essentially set up as a series of flashbacks it makes looking back at the game that much more emotionally powerful. Not to mention that the alternative ending completely changes the meaning of that last line.

Man, do I love Max Payne 2.

I preferred the alternate ending. I guess I felt that after everything that poor Max had gone through he needed a break, or else to possibly find a tall building to fling himself off of.

I dunno, I think he moved on with his life pretty well. He seems downright happy now.

Well I don't think anyone can deny that we like the way Max MOVES!

Download the hi-res from that link in the submitters comments. It's better in hi-res, and you know you want to.

You know what game had a proper fucking ending?

    Planescape: Torment.

    Damn right.

Incidentally, having just beat it today, the ending of No More Heroes is basically about how modern games tend to have really cockteasing endings.

While managing to be entirely awesome.

Icewind Dale had a weird ending considering the sequel. You beat the first ID and the land is saved. Your heroes are mighty and weighed down with loot. But when Icewind Dale 2 starts, you make up a whole new group and run around the same-ish areas from the first game. One NPC briefly talks about the first party and you find two books that reference them going off to adventure other lands - it's like Icewind Dale didn't happen when it comes to the sequel even though you're retreading familiar ground. Hell of a way to end things.
