    It's FMV, definitely.

Maybe we should use this as a general purpose FFIV thread?

A new Fatal Frame? On a system I own? Oh how I can not wait to scream in gleeful terror.
I demand it come packaged with a camera pattachment you look through. This would be the perfect game for that little Wii VR tech demo that was linked on the front page last week.

The third shot is the only one that could possibly be in-game and I really doubt that anyway.

This game is going to be hot shit though.

    You fucking shill.
Here are some new screens of Tecmo and Nintendo's joint project Zero: Gesshoku no Kamen [Fatal Frame: Mask of Lunar Eclipse] for Wii, the latest work of the popular horror adventure series. The game is being developed by Grasshopper and it is scheduled for a summer 2008 release in Japan. In the game your only weapon is a flashlight camera, which is capable to capture soul spirits and inflict damages to the spirits.

Also it's gotta be FMV. But if FFIV is a Wii exclusive than that is one more grain of sand drawing me ever closer to buying one.

How 'bout you just remake the thread, Ein.
Maybe it can be a celebration of all things piss pants inducing...which is pretty much just Fatal Frame.

No shit. Between this and No More Heroes being exclusive, my resolve to not own three systems this generation might finally break.

Like a general horror/survival horror thread? That sounds rad.

Ok this might take a while.

Honestly, I think some of them could be real-time. Not the first, nor the last one, nor the fourth one, most likely, but there isn't too much going on in the other shots that's impressive considering that there is likely a bloom filter and a grain filter in place.

EDIT: Whoa, just noticed that this is being developed by Grasshopper. Knowing their abilities, that probably puts the shots in CG territory, but the gameplay should be awesome.

I'd say they could be in-game. Some of the visual looks aren't that much different than what was in the Resident Evil re-make on Gamecube. But I have to bring up the old P.A. adage about the 'bull-shit screen-shot' as in early released screen shots aren't inherently representative of how the game will turn out.

You're missing the considerable amount of bump mapping in some of those screenshots. And, while the Wii can do bump mapping, I'd be surprised if a dev used that much bump mapping.

    REmake used pre-rendered backgrounds.

Ok I am going to bam out a thread on the chronology of survival horror and standard horror games. This should be pretty rad. I'll mention the Fatal Frame series but I don't want to make a FFIV thread because I don't know enough about it.

But yeah, I want to predict right now that once FFIV releases for the Wii, Wii Remotes being thrown through TVs will increase tenfold at the least.

Yeah I know and I thought a couple of those backgrounds looked sorta pre-rendered. The outdoor shot gave me a huge vibe of the sections on the wooded path in the RE1 remake.

well, I guess it could use prerendered backgrounds, but that's be an odd design choice.

I mean, prerendered backgrounds are a dying breed.

Eh just throwing my opinion out there. So as a related Fatal Frame note. I bought the first one when it came out simply because it looked cool on the shelf and the electronics store in my hometown, a chain called Hastings, randomly has stuff on super-sale for no reason and FF1 was $19.99 when it first came out. I LOVED it. Somehow I missed out on two and played FF3 but was unable to beat it. Is two worth seeking out?

There isn't much in the way of normal-mapping that I see other than the hallway and the entrance/forest shot.

The Wii is obviously capable of bloom, depth-of-field, and some normal-mapping, so there aren't necessarily any pics there that I'm convinced couldn't be done on the Wii...and if the game loads one room at a time and only displays a small amount, it probably could produce these visuals. But, taking the console's history and the dev's history into consideration, I agree that these shots are likely not real-time.

Not like it matters; Fatal Frame is awesome, Grasshopper is awesome, so this game will likely be so as well.

What kind of fucking thread is this? Yes, it's CG. Whoop de fucking do.

It's Fatal Frame and it's Grasshopper Manufacture - something that pathetic site linked to by the OP got wrong.

Grasshopper and Suda51 are awesome. Go buy No More Heroes. Everyone.
