I'd put on the album Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. The lyrics aren't great love songs really, but the overall album is a great mood setter.

    All three coldplay albums...

The acoustic version of "Spin" by Lifehouse is really good.

Acoustic version of "Iris" by the goo goo dolls.

Okay, first off, get both of the Bright Eyes songs that have been posted they would be amazing to cap off the whole playlist.

Valentine by the Get Up Kids is a good bet if your friends don't mind some old school emo (its one of my favorites). Though the Get Up Kids might not be the thing for a relationship thats still going...
I Swear by the Loved Ones is a great song and would probably fit lyrically and sound wise.

Nope, 100% serious actually, since the two you suggested are two of my favorites, and the two I offered in return are likewise on my personal list of nifty songs. If that makes me odd, I can live with that, but there was no offense intended.

My apologies, overly snarky reply, not nearly enough sleep. I was being a defensive asshole. Figured you were implying that my choices weren't hip enough or whatever.

I agree with the Proclaimers song, I've always had a soft spot for it.

    Sorry.

2 of my all time favorite punk rock love songs (not like theres a lot...)

Generation X - Kiss Me Deadly

Roxy Music - Mother of Pearl

And if you want to be cliche:

    NIN - Hurt

None of these are really accoustic.

Oh, 2 more i just thought of:

Marilyn Manson - Last Day on Earth (accoustic version, from the live album, the version on mechanical animals is shit)

Kings of Convenience - Id Rather Dance With You

I agree. I remember cel wondering how anyone could bone to Portishead, because to him it sounded like wrist slitting music. I dunno though, something about them is really sensual.

    I'd recommend:
    Venus by Air
Cherry Blossom Girl also by Air
These are the Things by Black Box Recorder
Never Met a Girl Like You Before by Iggy Pop
    No Myth by Michael Penn

If you want lust more than love, then go for:
    TURN ON by Fischerspooner

FAIL for not mentioning El Scorcho. It's one of the best love songs ever written. Seriously. I know oodles of people who agree. Please listen.

Drunk Again by Reel Big Fish is a little bit more downtrodden but I'd definitely put it on a love mix for the emotion alone. Not at all in the vein of their regular music.

All time favorite though would be The Love you Save by Joe Tex. Play that shit and watch the clothes come off. I've played it on the jukebox before in dive bars and had random slowdancing break out when no dancing ever occurs ever.

    Hahahaha.

Completely not acoustic, but definitely alternative: Kalmah - Moon of My Nights. Only really a love song if you listen to the lyrics, and then they're a bit :'( too. I really like it though.
