Portugal in PAX

Well, this is probably gonna stall, but let's see where is goes. :P

While its a big investment (upwards of 1000€, ~1500$), I'd love to go to PAX this year. Thing is, doing a 20+ hour flight alone, and being there all by myself, is not the most fun idea in my mind. Plus, I've never been out of Portugal, save for a few car trips to Spain, that pretty much don't count. And while I can speak english with ease, the prospect of being all alone in Seattle kinda uneases me.

So I was wondering, are there any portuguese people wandering around here than plan on going too? You know what they say, co-op is always more fun :)

If eventually I don't find anyone, and go crazy and do it alone, anyone have any tips for me?

Although some other Portuguese might pop up and prove me wrong, I have a feeling that you would have better luck finding (or generating) interest among whatever online Portuguese gamer communities exist.

And as for tips, I'd say that last year's guide thread is still the best source currently. Some things in there may not be happening again or happening differently this year, but most of it is still relevant.

PROTIP: Most of us are friendly. If you're feeling lonely at PAX, introduce yourself to the nearest crowd of people. They will think you're awesome because 1) you said 'Hi,' 2) you have an accent, and 3) you're at PAX. :)

Well, it's a pretty big haul, and, belive it or not, I think my best luck could be with a couple of acquaintances at a known portuguese gaming magazine. I wasn't/ain't expecting to get lucky with this thread. It was more of a "who knows" sort of thing.

Plus (and embarrassed to say this), I don't really hang around any portuguese communities.

Guess i'll have to either: get an accent (yes, unfortunatly, no accent for me... your vile entretainment has corrupted my beautifull, once sort of british accent of yore); or else, go in the Room-Share thread and get me a roomie who wants to share the weekend. It's not that I'm shy or anything, just that I'm not the kind of guy who can go into a crowd and come out with a bunch of friends. Just not that extrovert. :P

Still, first of all, I really gotta get sure that I can go! ;-)

You could also fly into LA and take the Train Trip to Seattle. That's a great way to meet a lot of people before PAX. There are a number of other people flying in from overseas to take the train as well.

I went to my first PAX alone from across the country. I went as an Enforcer, so I did get a chance to get to know the other Enforcers through the internet before I went, and really I think these forums are your best chance, along with the idea of taking the train trip. I think that would be a great experience and a great way to get to know people. :) And room share.

Moe makes a good point about the train trip... If I was coming from as far away as Portugal and had never left my country and flying all the way to the US... I'd try to make a big trip out of it (as big as I could afford anyway). You could visit the Los Angeles, CA area, catch the train and meet some PAX people, catch the expo, then visit Seattle, WA... then head home from there.

Might be pricey... but if you're coming all that way you might as well go big.
