Well, he's been involved in Chicago politics for many years now. So he's either already really corrupt and masterful at hiding it, or it's going to be pretty tough. Because, seriously, Chicago politics.

Didn't someone comment on how Texans loathe the Clintons before?
Texas Pubs, surely. I'm nowhere near as certain about Texas Dems being all that different from other Midwest Dems.
I only have my own anecdotal experience but while most I know liked Bill as a generally affable guy, most others outright loathed Hillary. I don't know enough about Bill's time in office to explain why, but Hillary is at best met with indifference with the democrats I've talked to. Though to be fair I also haven't talked to anyone older than 36.

I'm not saying it's impossible; it's just that some people aren't easily corruptable because they don't really want anything for themselves. I know I'm indifferent to money, power, etc.

Chicago is super fucking corrupt. If Chicago isn't enough to corrupt a politician you'll have to start putting them in countries that are not the United States.

Mark Penn is a sad motherfucker
On a conference call with reporters just now, Hillary pollster Mark Penn sought to make the case for her electability by dredging up bad memories of the GOP and right-wing media's successful efforts to redefine Al Gore and John Kerry, arguing that Hillary wouldn't succumb to such tactics.

The "GOP attack machine," Penn suggested, "skewed the perceptions of such distinguished public servants as Al Gore and John Kerry" in a way that left perceptions of them "out of touch with reality."

Heh. They're not even trying to push Hillary on her own merits anymore.

Yes, because if there's one political figure today who hasn't had their public image shaped by the GOP attack machine, it's Hillary Clinton.

Maybe Penn thinks that the GOP claims that she is an evil shrill harpy riding on the coattails of her husband are correct.

People bring up an interesting point regarding Chicago politics. I really hadn't thought about it before, but you're right. If they couldn't corrupt him, what could?

Additionally, Obama always struck me as the sort of guy who happened to be in the right place at the right time and was comfortable with the situation. Maybe he dreamed about being President someday, but it was the perfect sequence of events that catapulted him onto the national spotlight after being an unknown. I've always got the impression that he wants to be president not because he wants the position, but because he's sure he'll be a good president and help people.

    Yeah, I'm probably naive.

If Clinton were only winning 3% of the vote in the states leading up to Ohio and Texas then you'd have a good point, but that's not the case.

Yeah, the similarity was noted a bit ago. I'm speculating that Clinton's finances are actually much worse than they were letting on, and that she's basically forced into this strategy. How else do you explain the fact that Clinton is booking school gyms, public piers, and civic centers while Obama is booking sports arenas?

I also find it amusing that Clinton is constantly hawking her website at debates or in interviews, while Obama never really says a word about it, and assumes that people know how to fucking find something on the goddamn internet.

But not if you include Michigan and Florida. Even if he rocks everything from super Tuesday up through March 3rd, if those delegates are seated and Clinton takes Texas and Ohio even by a 55/45 on the 4th, she's still in the lead. He needs to at least be very close in those two states to cinch things up.
