    Meiss, these are honest suggestions.

If none of them strikes your fancy, I'd be more than happy to tailor a selection more to your tastes.

But I'd be surprised if you didn't enjoy In the Dutch Mountains or The Stars My Destination.

i haven't been reading at all lately

in two months i only read a discworld book and brave new world

    pshh

it's shameful how little I read when I'm at school

and I don't really know how much money I have right now, I'm guessing >100, so no buying books for a little while

    you'll get a smug sense of self-satisfaction

    and an alliteration addiction, also

Posts like these should be appreciated more.

So I'm reading No Country for Old Men right now, then I'm gonna read The Road...Should I read Blood Meridian next, or get off McCarthy and read The Stars My Destination?

Well, if you don't mind reading on a computer/PDA/phone/PSP/etc, there's always Project Gutenberg.

In fact, It Can't Happen Here is on Project Gutenberg, Australia.

    Both are splendid.

The advantage of the latter is that it's a change of pace, and will also keep you from burning through McCarthy's entire oeuvre in short order.

    Still, that's a tough choice.

I just ordered Max Barry's 'Syrup', Richard Morgan's 'Broken Angels' and Patrick O'Brien's 'Desolation Island'.

All authors I know from reading their previous works. I love reading but I'm overly cautious of picking new stuff to read.

Naporeon, what should I read if I like stuff by Pat O'Brien, Jasper Fforde or, for instance, Adams' 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency'

Well excuse me princess. I haven't read count of monte crisco either.
Don't bother! Now you can read The Stars My Destination instead; all of the adventure and vengeance, none of the pointless and meandering minefields in the plot.

man count of monte cristo is such a good book :(

    HOLY BALLS

I LOVE THE THURSDAY NEXT SERIES

And also, the two Dirk Gently books are the only Adams I really dig.

Anyhow, you could read THIS, or perhaps THIS. Neither are serious books, but then, they are both extremely fun reads, without being vapid and pointless.

    Uhmmmm...no.

It is a great plot, buried in a terrible mess of a book.

How could I not love Thursday Next?

It is a lit nerd's wet dream.

(And OK, we can fuck so hard, but don't tell PI or Pooro.)

Also, the Thursday Next novels were really awesome at first, but... man, it started to lay on thick by the third book. I loved it, don't get me wrong, but by the third book I started to skim pages and say "yes, yes, we get it, very witty, ha ha, MOAR PLOT PLS."
