I will try to keep this short. I also have had bouts of Anxiety and Panic Attacks. They got pretty bad to the point I thought I was dying (seriously).
Mine also "stacked" as it were. I would get so worked up about having cancer, or a heart attack or something like that, as I would have some chest pains (Turns out those chest pains were stress induced). Of course this would make my stress go through the roof. Chest pains increase. Anxiety increase. Repeat. Not a fun cycle.
I went to see a councilor, who wasn't very helpful, but did give me reference to a book (I think it was called "The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook" and there a number of different editions). The book actually was pretty helpful. I have found that I can manage my anxiety and keep it under control. Some involve some lifestyle changes. I have found one of the best things ever is just plain exercise, being in better shape helps. Reducing items like caffeine (I know for a gamer it can be hard), smoking, drinking. Doesn't mean you have to go out and quit all these things, however reducing them in your life will likely help. The last thing may sound pretty damn cheesy but it does help. Simply knowing you have gone through this all before, that you handled it in the past and you can handle it now. Any time I find myself having trouble, I think "This is just an anxiety attack, nothing to worry about, it will pass as always". I jokingly think, if anything serious ever does happen I am toast (as I will probably ignore it now), but I am ok with that. Bottom line, read up on anxiety and inform yourself, it will go a long ways in helping.
Anyway this was a particularly rough patch of my life, that I figured I could share, that may help Gabe or anyone else having difficulties that might be reading this.
