I'm sure there's a thread started on this already -- if anyone wants to point me to it, or one, or something similar, I'd appreciate it.
*leers at the non-functional search button*
ANYWAY, I finally got my lil' brother (23 years old little) to get a x360, and now I'm very much interested in picking up some co-op titles for us to play together online. So far, my interaction with him online has been relegated to: Burnout Revenge and Burnout Paradise --- both of which are super fun.
He and I have made our way through the Gears of War campaign on split screen on my console several times ---- which we both absolutely love. I'm now looking for MORE options that offer up some great multiplayer. Co-op is definitely preferred here --- I know he and I would have great fun matching up in TF2 (which he's currently borrowing from me) or CoD4 (which I haven't picked up yet) matches.. but co-op play definitely brings something
unique to the table.
New games, old games, whatever!
The only game I currently have on my *maybe* list is Crackdown --- I've heard the co-op mode can be fun in that game, and it's definitely a plus that the whole thing CAN be played in co-op mode (this IS the case, correct?).
In any case, I'd appreciate suggestions, links to similar threads, or amusing anecdotes.

It's all you need, really, although Crackdown is a hoot. Never played it co-op tho.
I didn't even think about Halo 3 ---- but that's definitely a good suggestion. I never played 1 or 2 though.
if you could find 2 copies of Kingdom Under Fire for like $5 or less each then that'll be worth it for the time you invest :P
Because that and the Counter-Operative mode was one of the best features of the N64 game IMO.
Switch: 6200-8149-0919 / Wii U: maximumzero / 3DS: 0860-3352-3335 / eBay Shop
The OP says that's what they already played.
Sorry, I have a habit of skipping sentences while reading
BARE BOTTOM SPANKINGS WILL FIX THAT RIGHT UP
Also, I'll throw out Phantasy Star Universe but it is an online game you'd have to pay monthly for.
Perfect Dark Zero does have co-op ---- I had forgotten. We played that split screen (a few levels, anyway) for a bit. Another good idea (being cheap also helps)! I imagine that it has online co-op as well as local? Anyone have experience with that?
On the other side of things, Earth Defence Force (mentioned above) is only coop via split-screen.
Try checking out the xbla, I'm sure you'll find something on there. My mind is drawing a blank at the moment though!

Yeah, we got Rock Band and play it over at my place. It IS super fun. I haven't had any experience with online Rock Band play yet (beyond quick competitions), but that would definitely be an option if we had another disc. Maybe someday!
..on that note, I've wondered how you wrangle voice chat while playing Rock Band online --- how does that work?
Awesome --- glad to hear an endorsement!
For singing: Voice chat is only enabled when holding one of the triggers and speaking into the mic normally.
Now Vegas 2, out soon seems like it could be remedying this, as the two AI squad members stay in the game under the control of the first player. However reading between the lines of the previews it certainly sounds like story mode is now limited to 2 player coop, while Terrorist hunt will remain four player (or more I guess, but I havent heard anything about the player limit dropping). Anyway the sequel sounds like it could be another game you never have to play alone (gears, halo 3, crackdown).
Kane and Lynch I borrowed because I was leery of spending money on it, and it was decent fun playing through on the lower difficulties with my girlfriend. The gunplay is a bit awkward on a controller, but its not because the guns are completely inaccurate so much as the recoil is hard to control more so than in any other 360 shooter. If you've played hitman it does feel quite similar, enemies drop pretty fast but its just not a smooth enough experience to have a great fire fight in some way I can't put my finger on. Still not awful, like I said I enjoyed it for the coop - split screen only though.
GRAW 1 and 2 have good but seperate coop from the single player campaign, which means they only have 4-6 coop specific levels - however this is coop for up to 16 people so might not be quite what you're looking for.
PD0 if you can get it cheap was great at the time, haven't played it in yonks though.
Hah --- I never knew what the little black dongle was for!

Nice article. I hadn't read much into Army of Two since I heard about it ---- and wasn't aware that everyone was expecting it to be awful. I was excited about the idea of a game designed for co-op. It'd be nice if it was, you know, passable.
Yeah, I was interested in it last year, but it sounded like it really wasn't headed anywhere special. Now I'm hearing more positive things from it, I still want to see how it reviews, but it's going back up in my estimations.
I opened my Perfect Dark Zero case last night, and it APPEARS that the entire mission mode is available for online co-op. I know, like I mentioned above, that the missions are playable via split screen co-op, and assume the rest of them will follow suit as well. I think that's the next one we're going to try ---- I'm a big fan of "classic" FPS gameplay.
..he and I used to play TimeSplitters in co-op and deathmatch ALL THE TIME. Perfect Dark Zero feels somewhat similar to those games ---- although significantly less awesome. :P
So, yes, first to answer your question, Perfect Dark Zero is fully playable with online co-op. Its a lot of fun but, if you were like us, and tried to play on the hardest difficulty (because we are manly men with hair on our chests), you'll find that its annoying as shit because the game can honestly be a pain in the ass.
I'll just go ahead and list most of the co-op games we've tried/want to try.
-Marvel Ultimate Alliance
-Blazing Angels
-Blazing Angels 2
-Gears of War
-Halo 3
-Crackdown
-Earth Defence Force
-Far Cry Instincts
-Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
-Kameo: Elements of Power
-Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
-Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2
-Rainbow Six Vegas
-Splinter Cell: Double Agent (I believe, can't be sure)
-Tenchu Z
That's all I can think of but I'm sure that'll be more than enough to get you started. Also, Eternal Sonata has offline co-op which you should play anyways because its an awesome game.
The whole game is pretty much just a giant playground.

If you can find a couple of copies and don't mind playing through the main game a bit first, Phantom Dust is great Vs play. I think you can even do 2 vs 2.
Oh please. Don't bitch about the difficulty till you get further in the game. I promise you that some of the bosses will anal rape you at times.
Isaiah 7 v 32
*shudders* I tried to play through it again in the harder difficulty, but had to stop at her because she did some face rape stuff to me.
Nice list!
We'll definitely be going through Perfect Dark Zero ---- it definitely helps that you can pick it up super cheap these days (and also that I already own it. Heh HEH).
Splinter Cell Double Agent DOES have some co-op levels, but they're seperate from the main campaign.
We're talking initial impressions here, my little friend. I'll definitely give Crackdown a go ---- as, when the chips fall down, I'm definitely a fan of collecting ORBS, especially if they translate into character building (Assassin Creed flags, I'm frowning at you).
Fair enough --- but, from an intial impression standpoint, I *do* find it significant that I was able to destroy the first boss of the game (and how many are there total? 6?) without doing anything in particular, or even really knowing how to play.
..and yeah, as someone mentioned, I'll definitely take a look at the achievements for the game and get my collecting on. Hoo-yah!
I didn't get far in it but the first co-op mission has you taking over for Sam once he's been called off assignment and the second mission is staging the prison riot.
I said system link because CT didn't play very smoothly on my 360 with my buddy over live and I think DA had the same problems.
Meh. That whole boss fight was to familiarize yourself with the controls/game. Come back to us when you beat the Russians without a hitch.
How is Marvel: Ultimate Alliance? Is that co-op over Live? I'm getting that in from Gamefly in the next few days, and was hoping it had online co-op. If it does, sweet!
On that note I freely admit that I know pretty much nothing about titles available for the original Xbox. Prior to the 360 I was a PlayStation / GameCube / PC-player, and avoided even thinking about purchasing a xbox. I grabbed the 360 after someone broke into my apartment and stole all the aforementioned consoles/games (plus a 2-week-old Launch-Wii that I waited for at 3:00 AM on release day.. sigh). In my fury / woe, I picked up the 360 and a HDTV, and couldn't be happier.
I've occassionally looked at oxbox titles, but never with any seriousness. System link play is appealing (aahhhh... Duke Nuke'm over serial cables way back when), but live is way easier for me to deal with now-a-days.
Holy mother of shit. I don't know if it's the gold edition, but if I like the game enough... I'll be buying the full thing. Thank you for that information Nocren. (Dr. Doom ftw!)
Yeah, that wasn't an attack on you or anything, just saying that it's a game that requires you to make your own fun. If you just go after killing the bosses, you'll be over in an afternoon and wondering why you bothered. If you go out to just screw around for half an hour, you'll suddenly find it's dark outside, you're hungry, there's a huge pile of unopened mail, and your relatives have registered you legally dead.
Just hop on a car (driven by your co-op buddy) and cruise around shooting the tyres on other cars.
