Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

I'm sure there's a thread on this somewhere but I went five pages back in G&T's history and couldn't find anything so fuck it.

Am I the only one that forgot it was due out early this year, then remembered, and is now waiting impatiently for this? Frankly, this is a big month for gaming but Apollo Justice is my #1 most anticipated title.

What is it?

Well, it's the fourth "Ace Attorney" game and follows the Phoenix Wright series. But you don't play as Phoenix Wright anymore. Now you are Apollo Justice, a snazzy new, young attorney with an entirely different haircut.

I'm sure there are people here who beat the Japanese version and know more than me so I'll just post what little I know and others can fill in the blanks:

Releases: 2/19/08 (well, ships that date)
Price: $29.99 (USD)

Why should you care?

Well, the first three got progressively better and more involved as the games went on. It's basically a graphic adventure title where you play a lawyer that does investigative work as well as grills people on the stand. The special thing about Apollo Justice is that it is the first game designed specifically for the Nintendo DS (the first three were GBA localizations/ports), which means it will include 3D-ish investigative puzzles that you might have seen in something like Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon. There was also a bonus case added to the US release of the first Phoenix Wright game that used the stylus and microphone in a way the GBA games obviously did not. So this will be like Case 5 of the first game, but expanded and throughout.

Basically, it's a great series and while this is a new cast of characters, it's well worth getting, even if you are new to the series. I recommend the first three if you can find them, but knowing Capcom I am willing to bet a Wii version containing all three Phoenix Wright games comes out in a year or two. Just a "from my ass" kind of guess, though.

I still need to finish the third one. I'll be picking this one up, but it's a series my wife is really more excited for than I am.

How far in are you? It's definitely worth seeing through to the end; I arrived insanely late to the Trials & Tribulations party, but I just finished it up about a week ago and it was stellar. Much better than Justice for All, IMO.

This is on my radar but funds are tight, so I might have to wait a while to pick it up. I'm really curious as to the DS-specific features, though; it seems like the courtroom sections will have more layers than just "pressing until you find a weakness," which worked well in the PW games but I'm always up for an extra challenge.

I need to track down a copy of Justice for All. The annoying thing is that I actually had my hands on a copy of it while I was buying the first, but decided to hold off on it until I was sure I liked the series. I haven't seen the game anywhere since then.

Impressions were that the game is good, but not nearly as good as T&T. Capcom cowed to fan pressure and gave the old characters too big a role, not giving the new cast enough time to shine.

Still working my way through Justice for All, but I have T&T waiting for when I finish.
If this is up to the same standard as any of the first 3 I'll probably import.

I couldn't find the thread when I finished T&T, so I'll just bring it up now-

    Final Case-
It started off kind've crappy with the whole twin thing, and the case itself stretched a bit thin in a few ways, but damn if the anti-Raiden switcheroo wasn't amazing. A satisfying way to get everyone involved in the finale.

    Psycho Locks.

As for the new game, I think Apollo Justice is a pretty great name, but I'm not a big fan of the vest. It doesn't matter that much, though, because
    Ema
    is back.

I interviewed the producer of the series over the summer and she talked about how the gameplay and basic structure of the entire game were created specifically with the handheld platform and "pick-up-and-play" aesthetic in mind. I would be very surprised if this happens.

Oh man I just finished Trials and Tribulations yesterday and I could not be more pumped for this to come out

I hope they gradually reintroduce the old characters into the new games

Basically I just want to see where everyone is after seven years
