My SNES is still plugged to my TV. It's been ages since I've touched it thanks to the virtual console, but recently I bought a few SFC games (Tetris Battle Gaiden, Final Fantasy V and Tactics Ogre) and I modded my SNES to be able to play them (as mentionned in the OP, it's incredibly easy and safe), so it's been brought back to life.
Also, from time to time, I'll pop in Chrono Trigger. God I love that game. It not being on the virtual console is a crime.

Do you know what I would do for a GBA/DS port of Chrono Trigger? I would terrible things.
Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Zelda: Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario All-Stars
Donkey Kong Country
All fantastic games loaded with nostalgia. I picked up Super Ghouls from VC recently and it was so god damned refreshing to know that it's still blisteringly hard as hell.
I had all those games on cart but my mum gave away my snes at the school fundraiser because "I had a new nintendo anyway".
Dammit Dammit Dammit.
Man, the SNES was crap compared to the Genesis, or should I say Megadrive! Real men didn't need six buttons, they played their games with just three and liked it! Of course when SEGA deemed the world ready for six buttons it was also amazing, making the worlds most comfortable and well supported controller. Sonic is light years ahead of Mario, with its hold right gameplay and total lack of speed. Plus nothing on the SNES rivals the great experiences of such epic RPG experiences like Phantasy Star III or the great tactical experience of Warsong or the amazingly condensed directors cut version of DOOM on the 32x.
We all know that the Genesis died before its time. If only it had been out more than two years ahead of the SNES it probably would have outsold its inferior competition! At least it won out in the UK, the most important developing market of the 1990's!

Oh look, a SNES appreciation thread. Boy I love the SNES!
Also, it appears that the euro SNES pad doesn't have the concave/convex buttons, but got the crazy Japanese colored buttons instead. I always wanted the colored pad, but I'd probably miss the easy to detect difference between the button rows.

Terrible, wonderful, I'll do whatever things they'll ask me.
I would pay many monies for a copy of Lufia II for my snes. I miss that game so.
But I do have a copy of Super Castlevania IV that I got for $5. Great game.

I loved the hell out of the game E.V.O.
Dunno why but the mix of actiona and rpg was kinda ahead of its time. Plus the somewhat unique plot made it pretty entertaining. But I just loved becoming a bird and never looking back.
Good times there.
Oh also I was rediculous at uniracers. I actually did all the math involved in getting the highest stunt score humanly possible (due to diminishing scores on repeated moves) on the frog stunt course. The best course for score. I know it for fact not only because I wrote down all the numbers and figured out the best path for stunts, but got the same indentical score 3 times :O

They really need to release Super Punch-Out!! on VC. I'm not terribly good at the NES one, but I love it, and from what I understand the SNES one is even better.

Some EA boxing game that came out on the Gamecube has it as an unlockable feature. Probably pretty cheap by now too.

Is that Cybernator game the predecessor to the one with a duck-spider robot. I could just look it up on Wikipedia, but I'd rather spend some time talking about what an awesome concept a duck-spider war machine is.
The SNES was the first gaming console I ever owned and it cemented gaming as my life long hobby. Every console I have ever owned has never had such a good library of games; here is my short, but awesome list.
Super Mario World/Super Mario All Stars
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Come out on the VC dammit! It is still to this day my favorite game)
Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3 (I love, love, loved these games and it makes me horribly sad that Donkey Kong is shoe horned into weird non-platformers; Donkey Konga I'm looking at you!)
Super Metroid (Only played it on the VC but it is still awesome)
Super Mario RPG (My first RPG)
Kirby Superstar (I'm looking forward to the DS update, very much so)
Mario Kart

There was a Genesis ad airing at the same time that compared Mario Kart to some crazy-fast racer on the Genesis to show how slow SMK was and how awesome Sega racers were.

I totally remember that ad, but I can't remember the game either. I want to think it was an F-1 racer. I remember they had a TV on the back of each car, with a Genesis in the fast car and an SNES in a beat-up backfiring van.
I fixed the Super Mario Kart link to one that is a lot better quality. So much so that you can practically hear "Sunday SUNDAY SUNDAY!"

Your KI link is still a SMK link though.

For a brief second I doubted that this was the greatest commercial of all time, but then I clicked the link. Any right thinking individual couldn't possibly disagree with your assessment. Although, the all-singing and all-dancing Japanese Link to the Past commercial does come in a close second: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kle0vau26xQ
My SNES remains the best damn gaming purchase I ever made, because I got Mario World, Mario Kart, and Mario All-Stars all included with it (it was right when All Stars came out).
The sad news is shortly after that my parents sold my NES in a garage sale.
I don't have many games for my SNES, though, but almost all of what I do have is top-notch stuff. My only SNES regret is never owning FFVI or Super Metroid. Of course, I have one of those on the GBA now.... just want to know WHY THE HELL Super Metroid isn't out on the DS .
Hmm. I may have to scour our Game Xchange and see if they have a copy...

You're thinking of Metal Warriors, right? If so then no there's actually no relation between the two games, though most people seem to think there is because of the striking similarity between the two games. The only thing that links them is that Konami published them both, but as far as I'm aware they were made by two different companies.
If you liked Metal Warriors, give cybernator a shot - it's awesome and will raise your sperm count*
Whomever mentioned Flashback, I would KILL (literally, any of you, or anyone I love and/or care about) for that to appear either on the Virtual Console or on either XBLA/PSN in fancy HD.
I've got it on the Amiga but I've become used to wireless controllers nowadays and the ability to play a game without getting my bum up off my sofa to change discs.
Also, to the person whom mentioned Out of this World, I'm afraid the SNES version wasn't really the best. Still good mind, but not the best.
