NoX - Ressurection.

edited February 2008 in Games and Technology
One of my favorite PC games i spent countless hours sitting in front of the monitor was Westwood studio's NoX. An Action RPG that featured a unique style of game play and multi player. After looking back upon those days i really miss slaying warriors and wizards in death match, playing CTF, or what ever kind of game mode. For a while i was really good at it. Unfortunately the online multi player community is DEAD.

This brings me to point of this thread. I'm Calling all gamers who share this craving. I want to gather enough people who want to play Nox and meet up at regularly scheduled times. Maybe start a new league, clan, or even a tournament to see who is the best. In the end, just I want to have fun playing a game that i love. Hopefully we can resurrect the online community. That would be amazing.

I'm planning on setting up the first game day in two weeks time, But it will depend on the number of participants for how soon. If you wish to play Nox or wish to support it reply this to this thread or bump it. Any help would be great. In the mean time feel free to talk about Nox or comment any ideas that might help our goal. The faster we get more supporters the faster we all can play! I believe we can do it!

I actually just finally bought this off GoGamer for like 7.50 about a month ago. I never got around to getting it when it was new but played the ever loving shit out of the demo... Unfortunately, my computer's video card is on the verge of turning my computer into a complete paperweight and it dies off any game, and even... YouTube... Pretty much all I can do anymore is post on forums and check news.

Man, I gotta find my disks.

I love this game if for nothing else than that it came with a second CD, that you could give to a friend so he could play online with you.

That shit needs to happen more.

So, what was everyones favourite class to play as? I was always partial to the Summoner but I always liked that kind of gameplay. Can't remember how the other classes played though.

Im in. I was just posting about this in another thread a couple of days ago.

Hell I may have to reinstall it right now.

As far as getting more ppl to play Im not sure. Post a similar thread in the other gaming sites: 1up, Gamespot, Evil Avatar?

I do remember that the multiplayer was hit hard with bugs or exploits.

What do we need to play online as far as patches go?

I just tried installing this 3 times. It hangs at the end of the first disk. Doesn't let me go any further. My discs are in pristine condition. I remember I had installation issues last time I did this. Dont remember how I got around it though.

    Any tips. I'll keep trying.

I found a site that has more info on various Nox stuff.

I love all the classes; they seemed to have their own flaws and strengths. The warrior would have been useless if it couldn't block (mmm killing a conjurer with his own arrow was so fun!) or do any of the abilities they gave it. Harpooning a wizard that's been silence if so fun to watch, especially if he just constantly running around you with out choice. Play as both the conjurer and the wizard were also fun. One of my favorite things to do was pick people off with the cross bow followed by a meteor or fist. The best ROFL moments though are when you see a player run in fear from little gnomish urchins that throw rocks. Wizards on the other hand you took some strategy. A well played wizard could be deadly, especially with the staff of death or triple fireball staff. Man I could go forever on this. I can't decide my favorite class. They're all so fun to play!

also i did post the same thread in IGN and Gamespot to increase our odds, i tried posting it in 1up but for some reason it wouldn't let me post a single thread at all last night.

Nice find warder, hopefully everyone can get their copy working. GL with Vista though. Mine installed fine on XP.
also that link listed contains info with installation for windows Vista and more.

I got mine installed, but now it doesn't work. I'll be at this for a while today . . . .

It works yaay. Lithenlok is there a site that we can use to set up game times, or maybe everyone should use Xfire?

I know the 360arcadian forum has a cool calendar for game on events, I was thinking if there was something like that we could use. I dont know if we could go over there for our Nox purposes though.

I think Tuesday 7 pm EST would do nicely. What we'll do is schedule a "first wave" this week for people who are ready to play and then schedule another time either later in week or the following Tuesday at the same time. Sound good?

Things to be looking forward to: up to 32 player CTF. King of the Realm, death match and elimination. Others may want to start quest games and see how far they're character can level. Depending on this weeks participation I'm setting up some tournaments where player's will win bragging rights and will be posted on the forum.

where do we meet up? in the Nox lobby?

It all sounds great! I'm excited. Excellent link too, it will come in very handy.

I will probably start questing again in Nox today just to get my feel back for the game. It's been since the quest patch came out since i last really played.

    Heh.

I bought NOX when I was done with Diablo and never really got into it. I only played a few hours. I remember feeling something was wrong with the combat, I'm not entirely sure what.

But when you mentioned the name, I'll admit I felt nostalgic. All I can remember is a really silly hat my character used to wear.

Yeah, there actually is a Nox community already that has done all kinds of presumably illegal things to get the game playable sans Westwood online (not linking here for obvious reasons). You can do LAN over Hamachi with an un-modified copy, but it's very laggy (as compared to playing in "internet" mode) and I don't know how to run a server.

All you need is the latest patch and all the official maps (not hard to find) and we should be good to go. I can't remember if having Quest installed matted, but I would not recommend playing that as it sucks.

I love Nox, but I hate playing with people who are playing to win. If you guys can get this figured out, I can bring friends and we will all run with comedy spell sets.

You do need the Quest update to play online. Once you've done that then you can use the update tool to patch the game up to version 1.2b.

Once you have all that you can go online.

Odds are we will be killing each other for victory, but we'll enjoy everyones experience and company as a whole. Again I'd prefer the idea of enjoying the game with others rather than strive for do anything to win motive. Bring friends, anyone who's willing to enjoy what multi player games are suppose to do, that is have fun with others

Oh and we'll be meeting at Channel Brin, in the USA Lobby. we'll hang about talking for a few minutes while we wait for people to show up and then we'll start a game. we'll label the game Penny Arcade if you run a little late if we started already.

also for some reasons unknown i'm having trouble hosting games. That is not the problem of creating them, just the trouble of people joining my game once it's created. Is there someone who could help me out and try to figure things out. I checked the ports and firewalls but i still don't know what the problem is.

I don't know if by checking you mean you've set up port forwarding, because if you haven't you need to do that.

Also, I thought Westwood Online was down?

That would be the address, on your LAN, of the computer you are hosting with.

Also, unless you have some serious up-speed, you won't be hosting any 30-player games.
