The good news is that more BioShock is coming; the not-quite-so-good news is that it's coming to cell phones.
The game is being developed by IG Fun LLC, who has yet to say whether this handheld version will be a new chapter in Rapture, or some kind of port of the original, but in either case it seems safe to say that it will be quite different.
It will be interesting to see how IG Fun tackles BioShock's trademark visuals and marvelous soundtrack, to say nothing of the fast-paced, plasmid-fueled combat. Will a Big Daddy be as terrifying when he's bite-sized? Seems fairly unlikely.
O_o Do people actually buy these games?

All I can say is that people do buy this shit. Why? I don't know but there's a fucking Guitar Hero cell phone game. With new (2 minute versions) songs.
I really wish that our cell phones were more like Japanese cell phones.
Also, so I don't junk up this thread anymore, can someone PM me the differences between our cell phone infastructure and the the Japanese's?
Like Doom RPG? Never played it, but I could see it working in that style.
But I strongly doubt it'll be anywhere near as atmospheric, which was a big part of BioShock.
I bought a splinter cell game on my verizon motorola phone once. It was actually pretty fun and was a 2-d platform shooter like Contra but with more stealth, but not quite enough stealth as actually doing missions without killing everyone was extremely hard. Stealth was definitely an afterthought.
But yeah, that was about it and I don't buy any more.
As far as Japan vs. US phones - think of our phones now, and our phones 10 years ago. The japanese practically had what we have now 10 years ago. Now their phones are like Asus EEE PCs in even smaller packages.
Infrastructure-wise, I'm not too sure what they use over there, but when you only need to cover a land mass the size of Japan, it's pretty cheap to put up a good coverage network vs. covering the huge land mass of the US. Plus since everything is so packed together you can use the higher-bandwidth lower-range frequencies where here in the US we try to get the most range possible.
TLDR: I'm jealous of Japanese cell phone tech and coverage.

Maybe the game will just consist of you getting random calls all the time from Atlas and Ryan telling you to do things.

You know... that would make for an interesting ARG...
Actually, that's what made me think of it. I don't think I ever played Pipe Dream, but I've certainly seen an ad either for it, or something very similar in the past. Hi5!
If I was in charge of the Bioshock IP, I would either have needed to see a very compelling tech demo, or a big ol' sack of money hats to license this out.

Orange ran a game like that on their network a few years ago. At least, I think it was Orange. It might have been another network but you could subscribe to it from any network. I never got into it, but it seemed like a cool idea. I signed up for it and got a voicemail one day with this weird girl's voice asking me to help her or something. But like I say, I never had the motivation to follow up so failing to achieve the set tasks meant I didn't get any further calls or text messages.
Don't know why they don't do it more often. Surely everybody isn't as apathetic as me? There's certainly a hardcore who fucking revel in ARGs, and cellphone networks have the infrastructure to run some pretty engaging ideas.
Not only do you have to serve the diners, you have to smack splicers in the face with a wrench before they kill your patrons.

Oh, I'd be all over it too. Hell, I played Majestic from launch all the way to the end.

I hate to break it to you but that wasn't an ARG. That was a realy girl crying out for your help and you were too apathetic to come and save her.
