StarCraft Ghost: Maybe, Possibly, Kinda, Technically Not Canceled?

When a list of canceled Blizzard titles emerged at this year's DICE, MTV's Stephen Totilo noticed one game conspicuously absent: Starcraft Ghost, which we probably all assumed was dead. But Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce told MTV "It never was technically canceled. It's just a focus thing for us right now." ... Umm, confirmed?

Yes, we've heard rumblings about a Ghost rebirth before, but so far absolutely nothing has come of it. That leaves us with one question: If a game almost assuredly isn't coming out in your lifetime, isn't it pretty much canceled anyway?

I would probably shit myself if Blizzard re-announced it.

    Man, the 2023 holiday rush is going to suck. Should I get Ghost or Duke Nukem Forever? The new Guns N' Roses album is hitting at the same time, too!

    Not surprised. I'm not sure Blizzard ever really cancels a game, so much as put it on the shelf to revisit at some time in the future. Besides, they have $texas to deal with, so they could easily afford to have a small team tinker away with the project indefinitely.

    Wait, I've played Pax Imperia and its sequel.

    Did blizzard hand it off after they canceled it or something?

    It was Pax Imperia 2 (Or immminant domain or whatever it was called), actually. (Not the first one, as far as I know) They were working on it, Shattered Nations and StarCraft (IIRC) at the same time and decided to focus just on Starcraft. They sold the rights to PA2 and absorbed the good stuff from Shattered Nations into StarCraft.

    That may be true. I remember seeing how awful it was during Comic Con 05' I think it was.

    Ah, that makes sense. I remember seeing like a "look forwards to these games from Blizzard" thing on the WC2 manual advertising Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain.

    But when I bought it Blizzard's name wasn't anywhere on it. Well, one childhood mystery solved!

    And my friends who played ghost multiplayer at blizzcon said it was amazing.

    I just thought it was delayed for an undetermined amount of time, not cancelled.
