I hope every FC cover is just some redhot JG Jones superhero portrait action

"We're actually doing two covers for each issue: One is very iconic, and the other is an idea that Grant had which involves less artwork for me and more basic design. But we are doing two covers for each.
NRAMA: So when you say the other cover is more basic design, is it something that will fit together at the end?
JGJ: No, not like that. At least, not to my knowledge. Grant's original idea was to have a different character on each cover but in exactly the same pose. We kind of nixed that, but we did like the concept of keeping a single iconic character. So each month, one of the covers is going to be a single iconic DC character."

I don't quite understand what that means for the other, non-solo cover.

Out of all of those, JSA is the only thing that really excites me. The War That Time Forgot would be cool if not for Jones. Huntress: Year One is written by a woman that writes children's books, so it could go either way. Hope it's good though, since I've liked Huntress since Cry For Blood. Tor just seems like one of those projects DC and Marvel throw their old industry vets every now and then, and after poor recent outings by the likes of Claremont and Simonson, I'm not optimistic. Even Kubert's last Sgt. Rock comic was kind of lame. JLA looks like it's going to be in permanent crossover mode forever, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get to see Duffie just write an original story free from editorial mandate. The Lost Boys tie-in is about twenty years too late to be relevant. Final Crisis will almost definitely be good, but I'm so tempted not to buy it just because I'm so fucking sick of companies selling their events on the promise of, "Heroes will die!"
How does DC go about deciding which heroes need "Year One" stories? Green Arrow I can see, Metamorpho I could kind of understand, but why Huntress?
Because she's got an interesting backstory? Especially since she's changed (naturally) over time.
I love Huntress as a character and wish they'd put her back in books that aren't Birds of Prey. I think she would work well in Outsiders, but I guess Batgirl fills her role.
I don't know what it is, but I don't really like a lot of DC's covers. That's not anything against the books, but man, outside of a few guys, they have some bad covers.

it's weird because I hate Marvel's covers most of the time
maybe it's because i only see the previews and they always have those watermarks over them

what's with JSA Classified? April solicitations said #37 was the final issue, but now #38 is the beginning of a two-parter

I don't really want to turn this into a Marvel vs. DC thing but cover art is something I see as a pretty clear advantage for Marvel. I mean, DC has JG Jones, but the group of painters Marvel brought in for Annihilation alone kind of balances that out.

i think you're just gay for that ultimate x-men cover
I know what you mean about the covers - the only monthly cover DC has that is a guaranteed homerun every month is James Jean of FABLES. Which is sad, considering they have Bolland, Sook, Ladronn, Alex Ross, Kevin Nowlan, and Jim Lee at their disposal.

I think the problem stems from DC letting the interior artists do the covers most of the time, resulting in covers that just look like a big splash page from the comic. But Marvel has a lot of guys that do covers almost exclusively, and have learned what makes a cool cover. I mean, look at that Booster Gold cover. I know the contents will be awesome, and Dan Jurgens is a fantastic sequential artist, but it's just not a very good cover. There's no punch to it. Of course, some guys are talented in both areas, like Adam Hughes or Cliff Chiang. Their covers are very bold and striking, and they look almost more like some commercial illustrations.
Oh, and a Batgirl arc in Batman: Classified illustrated by Kevin Maguire and written by Nicieza? JLI vol. 2 hardcover? Blue Beetle going on a date with Traci 13?

Yeah, that'll sell more comics in these parts.
Sad, but not surprised, to see Shadowpact go. I know the book had fairly few fans on this board, but goddamnit I enjoyed it.
Glad to see JSA Classified has somehow been brought back for at least one more arc.

I was excited for The War That Time Forgot before I saw that Bruce Jones is writing it.
It would be nice if Carlos Pacheco became the regular on JLofA.
The solicit for War that Time Forgot is a dissapointment. I mean, Bruce Jones...ugh...Al Barrionuevo..ugh. Joe Kubert covers..hey!
Tor!!
Good artist choice for Huntress.

I like that it says "Bruce Jones (Hulk)" instead of "Bruce Jones (NIGHTWING)"
they won't recognize that story arc

What is going on with Batman's mouth on this cover? Is that light reflecting on his lips, or his teeth?
