What is this?
A Penny Arcade community effort to play every game in the massive Legend of Zelda series. With multiple releases on every Nintendo platform since the original Famicom, take a journey through time and gaming as we relive all the old memories, together.

I'm a first time visitor to Earth, what's The Legend of Zelda?
Despite its name, the games all have to deal with the protagonist Link in his constant quest to save the world(s) from various forces of evil. Using his sword and the various tools he comes across, Link must fight off monstrous monsters and solve puzzling puzzles to save the princess/prevent the moon from crashing into the planet/defeat Gannon for the xth time.

I'll see if I can't get something working for one of them, but when I tried to do this in the DKC Let's play, I couldn't get things to record properly, so we'll see. If I do any, I'd like the original, because I've never played past like the second dungeon. I figure my ignorant floundering around with the thing should be the source of some comedy, maybe. I'll probably have to cut it down some so that every video isn't just me wandering around like an idiot, but it should be good fun.

Hmm... this may be the excuse I'm looking for to actually *play* Four Swords Adventures!

It's been sitting on my shelf for ages and I've never actually played it.

Mind if I call a tentative dibs on it? (Getting a video capture card early next week - everything should be fine, but just in case my computer bursts into flames, say)

Also, I pity the person who has to do the water temples. Any of them.

I've played Ocarina so many times that the Water Temple really doesn't bother me anymore. It was a total bitch the first two or three times, but that's all.

You know, despite playing Ocarina to the point that I don't even like it anymore, I don't think I've ever 100%ed it.

LttP is mine. Nobody else can have it. It'll be the perfect game to get me back in the groove of making videos. I just don't know when. Unless someone else REALLY wants to do it of course, I don't want to hold anyone back.

Back on topic, this LP thread is going to be awesome, but I need to finish my own before getting greedy/stupid and claiming something else. I'm really looking forward to watching someone go through the GBC Zeldas, I never got around to playing all the way through them myself (never had a GBC, I went from Pea Soup Green-Screened Chunky Monkey Gray Brick Boy to GBA.).

The original Legend of Zelda is what made me a gamer in the first place. I spent so much time playing that. Still remember the music, still prefer it over Ocarina and all the later Zelda's. I might have to drag out my NES console - Im sure Ive still got it round here somewhere...

Will watch all these. Hope to see you place LttP Gilder. Twilight Princess was my first. I bought Wind Waker, LoZ, Zelda II, and LttP after I got my Wii having not experienced them. I have save files a few hours into each. I brought my Wii to my friends house and together we were going through Zelda II cause I just couldn't handle to difficulty. We haven't played it in a while. Phantom Hourglass has recently been conquered. I enjoyed it quite a bit despite the repetitive dungeon. There's so much Zelda good-ness to be had. I have a capture card but I don't think I can put on a good enough show.

Edit: Forgot to mention Ocarina of Time. Last I checked I had somehow gotten stuck in the Deku Tree. Yes. The very first dungeon. Stuck and I don't know how. Maybe I should restart.

I am willing to do one of these and start now.

My top preference is Ocarina, but since I'm an unknown quantity I understand that someone else may want to do it. (I would be doing it via the bonus disc edition, so I could also do Master Quest.)

I would also be able, but significantly less willing, to do Wind Waker or Twilight Princess.

So I guess I call "dibs", provided no one else has, in the order outlined above.

How do you plan on doing the Oracle games? Have one person play through both, or one person play through Ages/Seasons and then provide the link password to whoever will play the other game? If it's the latter I'll call Seasons. If not then heck, I'll play through both.

Man, thinking about it, wouldn't the oracle games almost require two people playing through them? In order to make the Let's Play for them complete we'd also have to highlight the differences in both games when you "link" them versus the vanilla play through.

I'll tell you what. I'll start Oracle of Seasons, play through, and then transfer my data to Ages. Shady, you can start Ages and transfer to Seasons. That ought to exhaustively cover the two games, right?

Even if it doesn't work, it's easy enough to replace the battery. All you need is a lighter, a BIC pen, and another battery that will fit, which are easy enough to obtain for a couple bucks at Radioshack.

If I can figure out how to record commentary along with video I might try Wind Waker. I hadn't gotten far in it so I don't know how bad the sailing is. How the heck is everyone doing commentary with vids? I have a GameBridge so recording video is easy peasy. And I have a ton of different re-endcoding software so that's fine.

Hmm... thinking about it, I *might* be able to do something crazy like that hardware-wise (I have two gamecubes, one gameboy player, a gameboy advance SP with link cable), but I suspect I'll have a hard time finding someone to do it with me.

Also, potentially only one video capture card, but when I get home tonight, I shall see if I can do something fancy like that.

It's not that the sailing is bad, there's just way too fucking much of it and the trips can be rather long at times. Whoever does WW better bring lots of sheet music and lyrics because we demand bad singing.
