"Final Fantasy IV: The After" website is up
The fuck is an English release of the DS FF IV?
I want it
As do I...
But in regard to this game I do wonder if japanese software houses will ever begin releasing games compatible with non-japanese cellphones...
Or at the very least if someone will ever code an emulator for the NTT DoCoMo :P
Seriously, why don't they release these things on the DS? It's not like it would be difficult, and I'm sure they'd sell like hotcakes even in Japan, where they have the cell phone games.
FF6 could still have a pretty good sequel, though it certainly doesn't need one.
There is the whole "reconstruction of the world" thing going on, who knows what kind of stuff could happen in there. The setting would just be a little more steampunk-ish with magic having disappeared from the world and all.
Seriously though, when I first heard about this I Facepalmed about as hard as anyone else. FF4 holds a special place with me, and the remake alone made me somewhat question squeenix, then this made me pretty much head on doubt them. But because the game looks like it could have been A DIRECT sequel right before FF5, it gains insane points off that. Add in the fact all my favorite characters return and look 10 times more badass, and I just cant hate it.
The only thing I can hate is there is no way I could ever play this even thinking outside the box.

Nothing grabs attention like scantily clad characters. Who really don't have to be. :?
More Square "let's cash in on our good games" bullshit. And whoever said they want a sequel to 6, bad person. This is a very different company from before.
$10 they'll slip in FF12 / FFT:A crapass races into this.

So long as its on the cell phone, I can and will hate it. This hate extends to Square-Enix as a whole until they port all of their cell phone games to the DS or PSP or if they announce Chrono Break for one of the three consoles. Until then, my boycott of S-E and their milked game franchises shall continue.
I don't really see Square porting anything to the DS or PSP, especially just for America (and Europe I guess, but Square's never cared for Europe). Japan as a whole is beginning of (or in the middle of) a shift away from console gaming, and cell phone games are a massive, massive market overseas.
Until the largely backwards US cell phone infratructure gets with the times, it's highly doubtful we'll ever see any of these cell phone games (even the good ones) outside of maybe ports to next-gen handhelds three or five years after the fact.

While I agree I doubt it will happen, I find it retarded that Square would think so. Regardless of how "big" the cell phone market in Japan is (And I find it a little hard to believe that this would sell better on cell phones then on a proper handheld, especially the DS), they could make oodles of money overseas by porting the damn thing.
Fucking Square and their backwards mentality. What happened to the Square of the SNES and Playstation eras?

So, you hate Square for releasing sequels to old games and will not stop hating them until they....release a sequel to an old game?

Well, he says "boycott of their milked game franchises" which seems to imply that he hates that too.

Do you know the crazy number of titles from Square back in the SNES, and even Playstation days that never made it outside of Japan? If anything, we get more of their titles today than we ever did back then.

You mean the square that didn't release FF2,3 or 5? Anyways, between this and Parasite Eve, I think SquareEnix deserves many a :x

Classic turn based RPGs and adventure games are basically the only genres that work well on cellphones because you only need to press one button at any given time, so the controls aren't a huge issue. It's only natural for stuff like this and Phoenix Wright to end up on them.
Fuck, I'm looking at the prologue stuff in the story section, and apparantly, Theodore goes on a mission with FFIV versions of Biggs and Wedge. Port this to the DS or PSP, Squeenix, or I will hunt you down like dogs!
How hard could it possibly be to release these cellphone games in some form...any form, to the United States? Surely the faithful Final Fantasy fans of the West, even the heathen non-US countries, deserve it.

I don't know if this is more depressing or alarming.

I'm just glad that other series that desperately need sequels aren't getting sequels as cell phone games, like Parasite Eve.

I was about to reply to this to tell you the horrible truth, because I missed your footnote.
curse you, squeenix!
You know, I loved FFVI.
The ending to the game does not truly make for a sequel, though.

I think any sequel would cheapen it.
And teenage Porom art even more NSFW. I mean, good lord, it's like she's wearing a see-through neglige or something.
And Gilbart/Edward...looks somewhat manly now.
Do want. Come on DS game. Come on DS game!
Assuming several of the original cast members are back, this would probably make it have the highest average party age in any FF game ever.
I mean, that makes Palom and Porom 22, and that's order than the vast majority of FF protagonists right there.
Well, that explains Yang's 'stache.
Well, Fu So Ya was already schewing the average of four way up.
Also, the character art alone has brought me from do not want to maybe someday pick up somewhere somehow if it was any good and not on a phone.
Late on the ball man, there was a FF7 cellphone RPG released a few years ago featuring The Turks.
Man, I wanted to play it.
Ah yes, it was called Before Crisis and was a prequel to FF7.
Before Crisis is why I don't think we'll ever see this game.
Seriously, Square, what the fuck? If you can't release it on cell phones here, then port it to the DS or PSP.
SOLD
