I'm moving into a new apartment, and my new place has this really handy shelf above the fireplace that my widescreen LCD would look wonderful on. I don't have cable TV though, and use it as a 2nd computer monitor for my laptop. I don't want a big bulky VGA cable running across my room to my couch that my monster cat will likely use to destroy my precious monitor.
So, wireless! After researching wireless VGA, apparently its godawful expensive so I wanted to try to homebrew something. I've found plenty of schematics for doing VGA over ethernet which is simple enough as just swapping some ends and changing the pins, no problem there.
What I need to do now then is find a way to make that ethernet wireless. This is where I am stumped. I need some way to basically have the 2 ethernet ends just talk to each other and transmit whatever it is they are transmitting to each other.
Crude explanation
YAY TV --> VGA to Ethernet adapter -> Standard Cat 6 cable -> funny box to make it go through the air! -> Another funny box to receive that signal -> standard cat 6 cable -> Ethernet to VGA adapter -> Laptop!
Is there any such device that'll just basically act like I've cut an ethernet cable in half and just moved it apart? I havn't been able to find something, but maybe someone here knows. Or is there some way I could homebrew something that would do that task?

Your best bet would likely be to do the VGA-ethernet cable converter and run it under the carpet or under a conduit or something around the room so that it doesn't get pulled/tripped on.
Edit: A brief look around shows some of the commercial wireless VGA options being around $130-150. Though I can't say anything about the quality, having never used one. If you're dead set on getting wireless VGA this is going to be infinitely cheaper (both in time and money) then trying to come up with your own solution, though I'd personally still just find a better way to hide/route the cable so it isn't a problem and avoid the issue of wireless which is always going to have interference and signal issues anyway.
