Out of no where my g4 ibook had decided to crap out on me, unfortunately, right after purchasing leopard.
What it does:
Upon start up, it sits at the os loading screen (the circular loading icon). It does this until the computer idles and turns off...so the os is most definitely not loading. What can I do to fix this? I do have the copy of leopard and the original recover disk I got upon purchasing. Any help or support on this would be nice.
I have an old iBook G4, and a similar problem. In my case, the hard drive eventually gave out during a reformat; I guess that stress pushed it over the edge. The only fix (for me at least) was to get a new hard drive, which is ridiculously expensive if you go through Apple, and annoyingly difficult to do yourself on the iBooks.
Get your install CD, pop it in and boot off it. Then open up disk utility, select your mac HD, and then hit the Repair button. Really, it's just an easier way of doing a fsck. If this doesn't work, well, there are probably some other options... you might have to get your hands on a TechTool Pro (or similar). But it might be less expensive to just get a new drive.

That's the way to do it.
On my drive-less iMac (yay broken DVD drives) I just had to use it as a firewire target drive on another machine and use the Leopard dvd via that.
I'm like a first time mom who brings her baby to the doctor when it hiccups when it comes to my iBook. I hate going to a Genius Bar as those idiots broke my laptop in two different ways in less than 10 minutes (broke my optic drive and cracked my screen, some genius) but I've always had good luck with Apple certified resellers/techs.

fsck -f -y at the prompt.
If you can get your hands on a copy of Diskwarrior, that might help.
