Theorycrafting is not boring. I probably spend more time playing with Mids, surfing the forums and messing with the costume creator than I actually do playing the game.

I have never found these discussions the least bit interesting even when they pertain to a set I play or am interested in. That said I have no problem with duck and s3rial back and forthing on stuff, I just enjoy making fun of them for being so incredibly serious about one of the most casual games there is.
It may be the most casual in terms of difficulty, but the sheer choice in character creation lends itself to hours and hours of spreadsheeting and number crunching and discussion to determine which sets function the best and why and what each set is best at on and on. It's really fascinating stuff.
From a pure gameplay perspective, what travel power should I go for on my Dual Blades/Regen scrapper? I don't really need another attack, I'm only level 11 and already firing off attacks nigh constantly, so what'd be a good choice when you factor in that?

Yeah, being so familiar with WoW theorycrafting, there seems to be so much more potential for discussion with this game, so that conclusions are never ever reached.

Super Leaping.
I hate to say it, because conceptually, I think it wins the lamest travel power award.
But in practice, it's fast, it has good vertical movement, and you can take Combat Jumping as a pre-req, which has a near-zero endurance cost and provides a minor defense boost.
CJ/SJ is a little annoying in-mission, since there's no forward speed increase except when you're jumping. Sprint helps this a bit, obviously. Of course, I'm also simply used to superspeed and fly; I have only one leaping character.

What, lamer than flight? o_O
Superhero leaping from building to building >> stuck in a silly pose moving in a straight line.

I'm sorry? Flying through the air under your own power is lame? What would you consider cool enough?
It's nice that Scoot's lackey follows him dutifully. And I'm sorry, but if discussion turns this way in this thread I'm not going to ignore it. Although I'm sure you're more than willing to infract us for something that minor.

This is funny
The last three posts, I actually laughed out loud.

I am really having a hard time staying interested in this game because it just seems like there's nothing for me to really do. I've maxed out the character I enjoy playing as much as I care to, I have plenty of money from all of the farming I did, and rolling new characters is not holding my attention anymore.
I'm seriously giving thought to trying WoW again.
Somebody talk me out of this? I sort've like that CoH is casual (most groups can run without spending 30 minutes looking for a goddamned priest like I remember WoW forcing on you) but I just feel like I'm no longer interested
I wouldn't be surprised if most people are feeling the pre-Issue blahs, I know I am. When there's lots of cool stuff coming out in a few weeks there's not much motivation to repeat the same old.

It's not just that, it's that I12 isn't really exciting me. Nothing it's bringing is hooking me back into the game all that much. Roman zones? K, thanks, I guess. VEATS? I am not really liking the concepts behind them, though admittedly that's probably personal taste. Powerset proliferation? Great. A chance to level another character to 50 and do.. what?

Apparently not play the new content that they're adding that you are uninterested in
CoX isn't really for people who want a definition means of progression and constant content on one character. If you enjoyed the trip to 50 on one character, try another. The different ATs play so radically differently, and there are so many story arcs that even debt capped it's difficult to do them all. The 1-50 content IS the game, and what you do after you hit 50 is you make alts and farm on your 50 to outfit them with nice enhancements. Unlike traditional MMOs ala WoW and EQ2, there is no carrot on a stick that they pull infront of one character for years.

This is why I love CoX and why I keep coming back to it. I hated how when I played WoW everyone told me that "it opens up at 20" or "The real game begins at 50 (60 now)" which I always called bullshit on. A game should start at 1 and I should be having fun from the beginning, not when I reach the half way point.
Maybe it's because CoH was my first experience with an MMO but I always thought that despite some of it's flaws (which have since been mostly corrected) that the level progression was good and everything just flowed together (except for that one stint between 24 and 32 but that was because I was on a +17 hours difference from about 98% of PA, not in the SG and there was no Global chat at the time).

Erm, CoX before lvl 10 is fairly sucky.
