During the eight days the baby was strapped in the seat, both Hermann and Sargent were home, "playing video games, watching TV, feeding and caring for themselves,"
*Sigh* Once again, absolutely no evidence stating otherwise. It's just Fox twisting the truth to gain more hits as usual.
Also, the main page used to have this on it:

I wonder if I get a one way ticket to the middle of an ocean. I'm pretty sure this kind of crap doesn't go on in the marinelife community. (There's also no "reality" shows there to my knowledge)
Edit: In contrast, let's look at other news station's headlines for the story (courtesy of Kotaku):
Parents of 5-month-old face first-degree murder charges - Illinois Daily Herald
Parents Charged with Murder - Central Illinois Proud
Parents face first-degree murder in death of baby bound last week - WTHI News
No sign of video games there.

I can hear those ambulance chasers now.
1st degree murder charge.
Uh, I dunno about you, but that headline reads
"Parents of Baby Left Alone in Car Seat for 8 Days Face Murder Charges"
to me.
It got bumped down. Kotaku has a picture of it.
There are dumb video game news stories, but this isn't really one.
That's Kotaku's picture. Seems pretty definitive to me. They must've changed it later to the Played one.
Well now there's no mention of videogames anywhere on their main page. I guess somebody must've thrown a fit at them.
Some of the other headlines are pretty hilarious/depressing, though.
"Prep' or Porn? California mom horrified to read 'coming-of-age' novel presented in 12-year-old daughters's school reading program"
"School Bans 'Assassin' Game in Wake of Shootings"
"Monopoly Game Fuels Israeli-Palestinian Dispute"
"Blast in the Heavens: Satellite Shootdown a Bull's-Eye
- VIDEO: MASSIVE DEATH STAR-LIKE BLAST"
"Study Concludes Some Women Do Not Have G-Spot"
Man, what? Do they still let students read "Raisin in the Sun" or similar books any more? There's some pretty heavy material in there, too, but I remember reading it in 7th or 8th grade (12-13 years old in the US). Out teachers/parents back then thought we were all able to handle it. At this rate, our kids will be reading Dr. Seuss until they're 18. Sorry for going off-topic.

And for the record, it wasn't written up by Fox News - it's an AP article and it's circulating in print and online media everywhere. Fox news reprinted it just like many other places did.
And are as such responsible for it.
Edit: That is, it appearing on their website.
If you're going to call them out for it, you might as well say they're attacking food, since the article also quotes Kevin Lyons as saying they were feeding and caring for themselves those 8 days instead of their baby.
"Parents of Baby Left Alone in Car Seat for 8 Days Face Murder Charges" - where the hell does Fox's headline say anything about video games?
It was the headline on the front page for a few hours before it was changed.
Which I don't see as a big deal, newsites often put a prelim headline up when they get news then change it later.
Read the fucking thread. They changed the headline after people complained.
Originally, it was "Video Gamers leave Baby to Die". If you can't see that one as completely fucking inappropriate and sensationalist, you have problems.
As Kotaku said, they were watching TV too. Why not "TV Watchers Leave Baby To Die?" as a headline?
I bet they ate food too, once or twice in that 8 days. Why not "Food Eaters Leave Baby to Die"?
It's simply an utterly ridiculous, misleading, sensationalist, and outright malicious headline.
I'M A TWITTER SHITTER
In my defense, the OP was never updated so I just immediately replied to him and then replied to replies to me. It happens all the time.
Anyway, I hope those two parents rot in hell for what they did. If they didn't want to take care of their child, then they could have just given the baby up for adoption.
Was there a press release I haven't read confirming this or something?
The much more mundane explanation was that the headline was typed up quickly to be added to the site then later on they changed it as they actually read the thing in full.
They might have used "Gay couple" because that's a big distinction since there aren't very many same sex relationships with children.
If it said "Blacks Leave Baby to Die" or "Gays Leave Baby to Die" that would have been unnecessary and dumb. Perhaps the original title "Video Gamers Leave Baby to Die" wasn't necessary but it's not a big deal. It got changed since editors probably realized the headline could've been done better.
Thats terrible.
and awesome.
