Skip 2/3 of this G4 interview if you feel like it, just don't skip all the way to the end. Because just before the end you'll hear Kim Swift, Portal's lead designer, say that Valve's Doug Lombardi has just announced Portal 2. Well, we haven't heard squat from Doug, but hey, your word's just as good!
In any case, this was pretty much a given, when a game is THAT successful, has an ending that doesn't really tie anything up and then wins an award at GDC. Well any idiot knew that valve was going to be doing a sequel. I'm expecting portal 2 to ship with Episode 3, hopefully a similair package to Orange Box will be made. So we have the Portal sequel, Episode 3 and a multiplayer game.

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here:
HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate
my satisfaction.
I was so hoping they didn't do this. I loved portal but sometimes a game needs to be just one, no sequels, no spinoffs just leave it at one amazing game so you don't fuck it up somehow.

Left4Dead, perhaps?

You don't HAVE to play it you know. You can ignore it and keep the memory of the original sacred.
Nah I will have to play it, its like you buy a delicious cake from a bakery, and they are coming out with another cake, even if its not as good you are going to have to try it.

See: Sonic. Well, you stop after a couple rotten cakes in that case, but with a game as well crafted as Portal, you simply have to try out the sequel.

Nah I will have to play it, its like you buy a delicious & moist cake from a bakery, and they are coming out with another cake, even if its not as good you are going to have to try it.
Hmm, maybe they'll put Portal 1 and 2 in a bundle for people like me.
Then again, I need a new computer first. I tried playing the demo first slice and (wow, it totally just dawned on me "first slice" aka: Cake - how dense am I?) it was only playable after turning off the portal depth, which killed the game as I couldn't see where I was going till it was too late.

There's no use crying over every mistake
you just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
So is this just an announcement at this point? Any news about this being a stand-alone release or part of a package?
Just an announcement. Hell, it wasn't actually supposed to be an announcement. Kim was referencing another announcement that wasn't actually ever made. Seems she may have announced the game on accident.
What kind of changes do you think will be in Portal 2?
Will we play the same character?
Will Gordon make an appearance?
So, is that a no?
Because really all you're going to get is baseless fantasy and conjecture.
Don't forget the always hilarious Portal jokes, and the standard "I have an erection and my dicks are cumming" comments that happen every time a game is announced.
Hell I might have to subscribe to this just so I don't miss anything.

From the sound of it, the sun has been beaten at his own game.

I mean, I would be infinitely more surprised if they said that there wasnt going to be a Portal 2.
Thats right. Infinitely.
Worst kept secret since Half-Life 2
Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and agree with this
Worst kept secret since another installation or cashin of Pokemon.
But as opposed to GoW 2, Portal 2 wont be awash in gray. lol mirite
I think people everywhere would kill them if we have to wait that long.

Not really. Other than things we might like to see. Or theories on how the storyline might play out.

But that's the best part of game announcements.
Like, should they try to make another "Still Alive" or don't even dare?
