I dropped my laptop, and the HDD no longer seems to work

Here's the thing: I dropped my laptop because I was being careless (though it fell on the table, but the sound of the bump it made when it got dropped was loud) and now the HDD no longer works. Is there anything I can do to salvage the data that was inside? I have documents that need to be backed up and sending it to HP is not an option because I live in Latin America.

It's an HP Compaq 6110 if that's information that will help you help me.

Have you made sure that the HDD didn't just slip from its slot?

I hadn't thought of that, but I don't own a screwdriver small enough to open it. Also, how do I identify the slot I need to unscrew to find the HDD?

Edit: My mom took it to a place that might be able to help us, and she just phoned me to tell me they say it's damaged. It could be that they want to take advantage of her, but I don't know, really. Man, I wish I hadn't been so careless.

I don't understand, last year it got dropped from a way higher height and survived without scratches, yet it got dropped onto the table, and it got damaged. WTF.

Edit 2: Apparently, my mom has dropped it a few times, according to my brother, but still.

Edit 3: I don't know how this happened, but I think there was a miracle. It looks like the ride might have bumped everything back into its place and Windows is even booting. I honestly am very thankful to God because my mom wouldn't stop yelling at me for letting this happen, as the data I needed to recover was hers.

We're now making backups of all her files.
