Condemned 2: If a hobo is going crazy, the only solution is to beat him to death.

I think it's just about time to start working the hype pump for Condemned 2.

Coming out on 3/11 for both the 360 and PS3 in the United States (3/14 in Euroworldland) Condemned 2: Bloodshot is a game in which players will assume the identity of Ethan Thomas, the former Special Crimes Unit investigator, who’s been called back to duty to track down his missing partner who goes by the name Darcy.

The disturbing events from Ethan’s past have left him a broken man – a desperate burnout, drifting aimlessly through a society in inexplicable decline. Fighting inner demons throughout his one-man investigation into a sinister conspiracy, Ethan will need to use anything and everything in the environment to survive as he unravels the mysteries shrouding the city in darkness (Thanks, Wikipedia!).

The sequel to one of the best launch games in history, I have such high hopes for this game I may even be more psyched for it than for Super Smash Brothers: Melee, which is coming out three days before it and will surely overshadow it.

New to the series, Condemned 2 includes multiplayer modes that are both incredibly violent and possibly tasteless! There's something for everyone!

* Deathmatch - the player to reach the kill limit or the player with the most kills at the end of the time limit wins.

* Team Deathmatch - two teams of multiple players compete for the most kills.

* Bum Rush - as time based game of SCU Agents versus Influenced bums. The SCU cannot respawn, and must last as long as possible against the bums.

* Crime Scenes - another gametype pitting the SCU agents against the Influenced. The Influenced must hide two cases of evidence, while the SCU agents must use their equipment to find the evidence before time runs out.

Original Game Information:

Condemned: Criminal Origins is a video game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Sega for PC and the Xbox 360. It was released on November 15, 2005 in North America and December 2, 2005 in Europe, where it is known simply as Condemned. A version was released for the PC on April 11, 2006. Released in Japan and in Asia, it was known as Condemned: Psycho Crime.

The game uses a first person perspective and, like other current games, tries to put the perspective to new use. Condemned: Criminal Origins places an added emphasis on melee combat and puzzle solving, including searching for fingerprints and gathering evidence. It is firmly placed within the horror genre, and more specifically survival horror. The game also implements elements of psychological thriller. The game is also notable for its cutting edge graphics and advanced artificial intelligence. Stylistically, Condemned shares many similarities with Monolith's own F.E.A.R.

If I don't buy this game, it's only because I know I'll be unable to complete it out of terror. Also, the Eurogamer preview I read on it was awesome.

I was excited for the first game the second it was annouced, way more than any of the other launch titles... but I didn't get an Xbox 360 until after 3 years it was out and I got it with Bioshock. I didn't really want to pick up TWO horror games at once so I've been holding off, however... I found somebody selling Pokemon Diamond AND Condemned for $38 shipped... so I should have it within two weeks hopefully.

Then I can jump on Condemned 2! :D Isn't it supposed to have multiplayer too?

Condemned: Criminal Origins is only about $20 new in the US for the 360, and probably cheaper if you can find the PC version. I borrowed it months ago and then just recently picked it up in anticipation for this game. It still holds up really well, hopefully the story in the second one will be as good as it was in the first. It's one of the few games I've seen where it doesn't hold your hand and lead you through the story, you actually have to think about what's going on and draw your own conclusions.

The original is still one of my favorite of the early 360 titles. Fucking spooky game! It reminded me so much of Seven. God... that level in the shopping mall with the goddamn mannequins!

Yes, the sequel will have some MP components, although they didn't sound all that beefy. I know there's going to be 1 or 2 deatmatch variants. I'm a little hazy on the other gametypes... I think there might be some kind of team game--investigator(s) versus a pack of crazed street people, maybe? But don't quote me on that. I know there is at least one type that isn't standard deathmatch, but I can't remember exactly what the hell it is.

I'm looking forward to more environment interaction! Word is that we'll get more weapons pulled from the environment, and that you'll also be able to grab an opponent and drag them over to a hot spot icon for seriously gruesome kills like kicking their ass off the side of a building or shoving their face into a TV. Meeting certain requirements will also net you some upgrades (brass knuckles!) after finishing a chapter, ala SC: Double Agent.

Edit: beat'd. MP components added by Trevor.

Condemned 2 looks good on last week's 1UP Show. The level that's on fire looked insane.

This game was scary, huh? I bought it for the PC when it came out and quit after 2-3 levels. It seemed pretty boring to me, and I wasn't scared but maybe once or twice, but that's because the shit jumped out at me (sorta like in Doom 3). But everyone's like (by everyone, I mean my friends): "ZOMG I can't play the game with the lights out! I was scared shitless... blahblahblah". I was more terrified of Resident Evil 1 for the PSX, than this game.

I might pick this up when it ends up in the bargain bin. I don't think much has changed since the first one from what I've read.

I might have to rent it for the 360 then. A 19" monitor with stereo speakers probably isn't nearly as creepy as a 50" DLP TV with stereo speakers.

It was definitely one of the games you had to be in the mood for. It wasn't a game you could be playing while listening to music or watching TV or writing a postcard or whatever. In the right environment with the volume cranked up it could be a little eerie or perhaps even spooky sometimes. It's not going to make you shit your pants out of fear, but it might give you those pleasant chills that ghost stories did when you were little.

I dunno. I played it on a monitor (this was before I had my 57" Mits) and it still creeped me out completely. Can't wait for this game. I hope it still has the same atmosphere and hasn't gone down in production values.

Condemned was arguably the best launch game on the 360. I know CoD2 stole a lot of the attention, though.

Games (fuck, movies too) that do those cheap scares really piss me off. Atmosphere is what I'm looking for, and I heard this game has it. Hard to do with a small monitor.

I'll give it a shot. I'm placing my faith in you Trevor, pray you don't break it! :)

Hey, you almost played through KUF twice. You can certainly do a whole lot better and probably not much worse. With that kind of tolerance you should be able to play through Condemned about 15 times.

Ugh. Don't remind me. I only did it the 2nd time because my friend Red Ring'd before I beat the game, and wanted to go through it.

And I'll be damned if I let one of my friends go through that game alone. But... You're probably right. :)

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but the fact that I know three people that are going to buy Brawl instead of Condemned 2 means that either I live in some freakish parallel universe where up is down and dogs and cats live together or there are still some people who are leery about spending $110 in the span of three days.

I have very, very fond memories of Condemned. It was one of the games I bought when I picked up my 360, and I ended up playing just this game right until it was about 4 a.m. and I realized I had a few hours until work.

I loved it so much that even if they manage to not make the sequel WORSE, I will loves loves loves it. Any improvements will only make my life that much tougher.

The initial multiplayer impressions from 1up weren't favorable. The levels are apparently way too small, and just not very good. Of course, they could have changed it.

Doesn't matter too much, though, as the single player looks absolutely stellar. I haven't played a horror game for far too long, and everything I've read and seen of this is very, very impressive. I loved the first game, but it was, of course, lacking in several departments. This promises to fix everything that was wrong about the first game, and then add a bunch of awesome shit on top, like optional and non-linear investigation, grappling techniques, environmental interaction, etc.. Aside from Prototype, it's my most anticipated game for this semester. I cannot wait.

In two of the modes there appears to be a distinction between psychotic bums and FBI-type guys as far as what they can do and what weapons they use and such. For Team Deathmatch I assume the difference will only be cosmetic.
