I've been painting a lot lately. These are some of my better ones from the last year (I'll post more as I get unlazy and photograph them). Just looking for some feedback by people that aren't friends/family. I'm trying to put together a portfolio to pitch to schools for the next spring semester, and I'm just kind of not sure if I have what it takes to get into a good art school.
Water Color, with all the eyes/stars glow in the dark acrylic
I've been doing a series of these as "left over paint" child-like paintings. The giant signature was an idea of a friend of mine, just to emphasize the lack of maturity in the work.
My girlfriend on the beach. The pink streak is a phenomena from the photograph with random light.
A roughly 3ft x 4ft heart shaped watercolor painting I did for my girlfriend for valentines day.

I'm getting nothing but broken links. Double-check your hosting.
edit: nevermind, I checked your links - my work blocks anything with myspace in the url. You're probably fine.

Wow. Where do you work? A friend of mine who works at a highschool has this problem, but the few places I've worked didn't really block anything as much as they'd send you a list of shit you shouldn't have been looking at if there was anything and then you'd have a stern talking to.

My work only blocks myspace, and only because it was a problem for a former employee.
I'm 18, and I'm currently enrolled at our local community college. I'm technically an art major, but only till I attempt to transer (I'm not actually taking any art courses currently, however I'm taking private lessons from a friend who's a highschool art teacher professionally) if the transfer doesn't work out I'll change majors as it clearly won't have been meant to be. I'm not sure what you mean by level. I guess whatever the earliest of levels would be.
Also, since it's a general arts major I want to be I noticed that quite a lot of music and theatre courses are required (atleast from community college) to graduate under this title. I guess I'm curious if that means I can include a CD of music I've composed (I have both things I've composed on my own, and also my band will be recording our first demo to pimp to lables in April) and perhaps a DVD of some performances with my band or of stage acting I did in highschool (and also whenever the next time I have enough free time to make an audition in community theatre). I was curious if doing so would actually help me get in anywhere, or it wouldn't even be looked at. Are they just looking for a visual portfolio?
[Disclaimer: I've never been to art school, nor have i applied to get to one, so my comments may well be wrong!]
Ok. Whilst i really like the stuff you posted you really need to be able to prove you can use a pencil, and that you can do correct anatomy (to an extent). Your portfolio needs to be more rounded than those paintings. Realistic drawings/paintings of people/environments are always a good thing to be able to show.

having just been accepted at an art school, my portfolio was half drawing from a live 3d source (not a photo) and half other works I have done that exhibited the best examples of different skills I have. Your stuff up there (now that I can see it from home) shows you've got a creative streak, but doesn't tell much about your technical skills. Get out an art pad and draw your girlfriend, your buddy, yourself, whatever you can and practice like crazy, get the best examples that show your technique and your ability and put them together in a clean, well-organized notebook.
I suggest looking at my school. You could be the best artist in the world or the worst, and you will be welcome here. Most schools aren't really too strict about portfolios anyways honestly, it is more of a formality in most cases.
My art teacher in high school and I were never friends (he told me I was one of his favorite students, ect but I in my previous highschool took two years of art in the same year so my last year with him wasn't as a senior, so during my senior year I tried to be buddy-buddy with him like we used to be, and literally over the summer he had basically dropped all interest in continuing to teach or work with me, which was lame and kind of hurt) he always used to get on me that I needed to do a self portrait, but I would always insist that this
(I forgot to mention that in this picture, fighting off the giant demons and one eyed zombies is me)
Was self portrait enough for my portfolio (Jokingly) and it would send him into a tirade. I never got one done in his class, but I was thinking of doing one in charcoal soon.
I guess I'll post some more stuff into the OP as I get time, but all the stuff I have laying around is crazy-cartoony stuff like the top and bottom ones, or crazy arrangements of shapes and things. Blah. Lot's more glow in the dark.
