They could have easily done Dead Rising last-gen.

Decrease your poly-count, and viola. It's not like Dead Rising did anything revolutionary.

That many independantly moving bodies? I thought there was a cap on the number of enemies the systems could do, even low poly ones, and Dead Rising blew that shit out of the water.

the question is, are you hardcore or are you soft?

if you're soft, then stay away from it, cause you probably won't like it enough to warrant putting down $60 for it.

if however, you're hardcore like me, and the only game you own for ps3 is vf5, then yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

the xbox 360 version is much, much better though.

I don't actually know, but why would there be a cap on the number of enemies you could have in a game? It boils down to how complex your AI is (they're zombies for crying out loud) and how many polys they contain. Get one of your "artistic" dev teams to come up with a low-poly, cel-shaded zombie game, and BAM. You've got dead rising on XBOX.

OK, so maybe you don't have 100 zombies on screen at once, you've got 30. The point remains that the experience is still nearly the same, the only difference is how "pretty" your game is.

I'm not a console dev or a guru or anything, but I have owned Dead Rising and did not feel it did anything for "next gen" other than "more graphics = more fun". The gameplay concepts (i.e. hitting things with stuff) has been around FOREVER. Just my two cents.

It’s funny to watch peoples expression the first time they see Everyday Shooter played.

If their not actually playing it, and not introduced to it, an innocent bystander, come walking over saying "wow what the fuck is this?" usually followed by a long pause then followed by a "wow that’s pretty bad ass".

For the price and amount of unlockables, I think it’s worth the admission.

My favorite PSN game hands down. For me it is way more fun than super star dust.[/QUOTE]

Love me some EDS, but just my opinion super stardust is the winner of the two. Everything that has been said in here I've enjoyed to one degree or another(cept the gundam game). One mistake I've made with the ps3 was a buddy and I were walking through a game store and lego starwars caught his eye and the online co-op feature on the back of the box. He basicly badgered me into buying it, little did either of us know the online co-op was totaly broken.

In other news aperantly the Lair devs are planning on releasing an analog stick flight patch. Some blogster said they got to play it at CES, don't know if this is an unsubstanciated rumor or what, but the game was preaty fun if you could get use to the some what dodgey controlls.

My arguement that Uncharted could have been done last gen:

No fucking way. Yes, you could have taken out the stunning animation and the gorgeous backdrops...but then it wouldn't be uncharted. To give a completely different perspective, Uncharted is the only game that's made my girlfriend sit up, play and enjoy a video game.

"Next Gen" isn't just about the wiimote (which I agree is a nice BIG change), it's about utilising the hardware to do something that couldn't previously be done. And I don't think there's anyway you could get the same experience on older consoles.

I'm throwing my $0.02 in here as well. There is no way that Uncharted in it's current form could be done on any of the previous gen gaming consoles. Just the AI alone is amazing, enemies never move the same way no matter how many times you play through. Then it's the graphics in regards the running water, falling leaves, the way the plants move. And the character animations, not just the face but everything about them. Like the environment it's never the same, as in no pattern was so ever. And then to top everything off no load times as all once you start the game. Forget last gen, I doubt Uncharted in this form could even be done on the 360 with the processing needed for the AI, the animations, and of course the physics. Simply put my mother sat down and watch me play because Uncharted is truly playing a movie, if that makes any sense.

Naughty Dog wrote everything from scratch for this game and the PS3 in general. So I am stocked to see what Uncharted 2 is like and then of course the next Jake & Daxter game as well. And of course they share tech with Insomniac studios and both companies have donated code to the PS3 Dev kits for Sony. So I look forward to the next few years.

I could continue the discussion without resorting to "suxbox360 couldn't run this".

The 360 could if it had been developed from the ground up for it. I just don't believe it'd be anywhere near close to the same experience, or even the same game running on lesser hardware (by which I mean lastgen).

I really don't think the 360 would have trouble with the AI, animations and the majority of the physics. Where I think a 360 version might suffer is the no loading thing (It constantly streams stuff off of the disc and caches on the drive) and possibly the jungle/water areas. (with the plants and trees moving with the wind and stuff)

I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

what's the best looking game I can download from the store?

and the most fun? two separate questions, but if I'm lucky they'll have the same answer.

also, do all demos come 720p? and do all purchased games (meaning complete, with disc or for some just downloaded) run at 1080p?

most fun - everyday shooter. this may actually count as the best looking game, too, if you're judging on aesthetics rather than polygons. this or loco roco cocoreccho

best looking - the mlb08 'the show' demo is pretty freaking hot. there's also a demo of uncharted, last i saw, and that looks amazing if you haven't already played it. as for full psn games - possibly warhawk?

edit: i'm pretty sure only certain games support 1080p

Don't go in expecting all the additional stuff console Tekken's usually come with though. It's a port of the arcade version, so there's no story modes or anything like that. It does have an online mode though but I hear it's kind of dead due to the lag.

Depends if you want multiplayer or single player. Warhawk is the best multiplayer I've played in bloody ages, but resistance is one of few single player FPS games that's grabbed me in the last few years.

I normally despise them but something about it's style, the way health works and the fact the first few levels are set in MY TOWN really really grabbed me.

The multiplayer in Resistance is good, but there's not as big a community as Warhawk.

Wondering if you guys can help me with some queries. I live in the UK and I'm going to new york in a couple of weeks and i'm seriously considering getting a ps3 while i'm there as I reckon I would save a fair bit of money. It also has the benefit of being a region 1 dvd/blu-ray player so i can buy US TV shows that don't seem to come out over here for ages.

I was thinking of getting a 60GB one if i can find it so that i have backwards compatibility. One question though, will i be able to play PAL PS2 games on the NTSC PS3? It's not a big deal if i can't as i'm quite happy to re-buy the two games i wanted to play (Ico and Shadow of the Colossus) but it would be nice if I could play my PAL games as well (My brother now has the PS2)

Are there any other things i need to take in to account before i make a decision?

Depends totally on how you play. If you just want to keep advancing the story to see what happens next, then probably about 8 hours. On my first play-through I was searching every nook and cranny for the treasures, plus enjoying the view, so I clocked in at around 12 hours. That's 12 hours straight, mind you. First game I can think of that kept me glued to the TV for a completion in 1 sitting. Subsequent play-throughs have been shorter. The point is you will play through it again, and again, making the game 20-30+ hours of gameplay... at least.

Nah, you can only play NTSC-US games on a NTSC-US PS3 (the same thing goes with NTSC-Jap and PAL games/PS3's as well). You should know that the US version of Ico is apparently pretty hard to find, the case is terrible and it doesn't have the secrets the PAL version has (like the lightsaber and co-op).

You should also remember that none of your save games from PAL PS2 games will work on NTSC PS2 games. So if you're halfway through Ico in your PAL game, you'll have to start again.

The only other thing I can think of is censoring. Some games are specifically censored for a certain PS3's region. So take Resistance for example, if I owned a Japanese PS3 and imported a US copy of the game, it would be just as censored as the Japanese version. That said, the ESRB is pretty lenient compared to some European ratings boards, so it shouldn't be a problem.

And lastly, the UK and US are both in Blu-Ray region 1 so you wouldn't have problems with them anyway.
