The Reynard project will begin by profiling online gaming behavior, then potentially move on to its ultimate goal of "automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world."

So they are going to develop some kind of 'terrorist filter' and run it on Wow? An interesting idea, perhaps spawn camping and corpse humping are indicative people who have bigger problems. Or this could just be further scape goating of an easy target. Either way, be careful the next time for gank some newb for the third time in a row: he could be a fed.

If there's a game which I'd suspect, it'd be Second Life or maybe EVE. So why WoW?

The only useful way to find potential terrorist activity in WoW is to monitor chat. As in, ALL of it. General, group chats, individual whispers, the works. Over 200-odd servers with hundreds of thousands of people active 24 hours a day.

    Yeah, good luck with that.

The only time I hear about Second Life is when the media is hyping it as some kind of revolutionary idea. No one I know uses it and it has done nothing but given furries and other extreme fetish people a place to congregate.

you'd be surprised how we take things for granted. have 2 people set a date and time in the virtual world for a meet, and they can be talking simple game stuff that translated to a pre-agreed upon code turns into orders for attacks/etc. very effective, very difficult to trace and figure out.

....okay or they could use an instant messenger with the same idea.

exactly which is why this is a waste of time and effort.

but then again there's many things that happen which are a waste of time and effort and we never find out about.

You leave us and our playground alone, dammit!

And do you guys honestly think they would read any logs or anything from anywhere? No. It's kinda like the spam folder in your email. The filter will automatically dump a few of my emails because they are from a friend and he used a key phrase that set off the filter like "You ought to buy this prescription."

They would do the same thing with Logs. They would just search for key terms and phrases and go from there.

You should move to Canada Online. Our chat isn't monitored by any mods, every class gets free res, and we have far less griefers.

Only problem is that the Quebecers are fucking unbalanced, but that's not really an issue if you're smart and roll one before they nerf them next patch.
