U.S. Spies Want to Find Terrorists in World of Warcraft
The Reynard project will begin by profiling online gaming behavior, then potentially move on to its ultimate goal of "automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world."
So they are going to develop some kind of 'terrorist filter' and run it on Wow? An interesting idea, perhaps spawn camping and corpse humping are indicative people who have bigger problems. Or this could just be further scape goating of an easy target. Either way, be careful the next time for gank some newb for the third time in a row: he could be a fed.

The only useful way to find potential terrorist activity in WoW is to monitor chat. As in, ALL of it. General, group chats, individual whispers, the works. Over 200-odd servers with hundreds of thousands of people active 24 hours a day.

Yeah, good luck with that.
Many, this of all the logs of RP WoW cyber they'll have to sift through.
If there's a game which I'd suspect, it'd be Second Life or maybe EVE. So why WoW?
I pity the people who would have to monitor Second Life if that was the case. That place is the dirty underbelly of the internet. People who go in come back... changed.

The only time I hear about Second Life is when the media is hyping it as some kind of revolutionary idea. No one I know uses it and it has done nothing but given furries and other extreme fetish people a place to congregate.
I'll have to start making it clear that I didn't take up WoW engineering for goggles...I took it because Goblin engineering provides me with the tools to harm freedom.
I'll resubscribe and use Arabic names for my characters.
I have an undead level 1rogue named Achmed. When I can bother I'm going to pick up engineering, make bombs and get him into the guild <The Undead Terrorist>.

You should be constantly saying in General Chat how much you hate freedom and infidels and making sly references to a future attack.

So are you going to get kidnapped and flown to secret lairs by griffins?

you'd be surprised how we take things for granted. have 2 people set a date and time in the virtual world for a meet, and they can be talking simple game stuff that translated to a pre-agreed upon code turns into orders for attacks/etc. very effective, very difficult to trace and figure out.

....okay or they could use an instant messenger with the same idea.
maybe even one of the 45 other MMOs less popular and thus less likely to be 'monitored'.

exactly which is why this is a waste of time and effort.
but then again there's many things that happen which are a waste of time and effort and we never find out about.
I think this is just an excuse for some lazy (READ: ingenious) spies to play WoW all day and get paid for it. See, those monthly fees don't pay themselves.

FFXI would be perfect. One of the classes actually has a suicide bomb attack.

You leave us and our playground alone, dammit!
And do you guys honestly think they would read any logs or anything from anywhere? No. It's kinda like the spam folder in your email. The filter will automatically dump a few of my emails because they are from a friend and he used a key phrase that set off the filter like "You ought to buy this prescription."
They would do the same thing with Logs. They would just search for key terms and phrases and go from there.
I'm still pissed that they fucked up on nerfing warrantless wiretaps. I'm >< this close to cancelling my US Citizenship account. No $10 a month for you, Actiblizzerica!

Can't wait until they have to sift through all those chat logs of people planting bombs in Old Hillsbrad.
Oh jesus.
Just imagine an RP server with Bombing run quests.
"DEATH TO THE INFIDELS OF THE BURNING LEGION!"
"Burning legion is clearly a reference to Texas and our current president, hence we are his legion. WE HAVE A TERRORIST CONFIRMED!"

You should move to Canada Online. Our chat isn't monitored by any mods, every class gets free res, and we have far less griefers.
Only problem is that the Quebecers are fucking unbalanced, but that's not really an issue if you're smart and roll one before they nerf them next patch.

Super Sapper Charge
Requires Engineering (340)
Use: Explodes when triggered, dealing 900 to 1500 Fire damage to all enemies nearby and 675 to 1125 damage to you.
Not to mention Arcane Missiles. I mean, hello, missiles.
