How should I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ?

I've decided that I really want to play stalker, but I'm not sure the best way to do it. I've heard that there's a fan patch that makes it a lot better, is that true? If I get it off steam, can I apply that patch?


Inquiring minds wish to know what installion configuation will give me the best experience!

    Well, I guess if you're a giant gaping vagina you will want the mod that removes armor degradation. Is search still not working? The other STALKER thread has a list of useful mods but I personally play it vanilla with recent official patches.

    Don't be gaping vagina. don't increase the carry weight.

    Sure its annoying, but it really helps the tough realism of the game.

    Maybe this is a better way to put it: the mechanics are not the game. If you finish the game and still complain about the mechanics, you did something wrong.
