So, since Elki's said no other politics than primary stuff in the Primary thread, I thought maybe we could use a thread for all the other politics that go on.
Mostly, I wanted to post this story: NYGOP Takes Major Loss In State Senate.
Basically, the NYS Senate is the last piece of the NYS government that the GOP has any control over. Recently, one of the incumbents retired, forcing a special election for his seat. This is a district that's been GOP since the days of the robber barons. This should have been a cakewalk for the GOP.
Instead, they got their head handed to them. Furthermore, it erodes the GOP control in the Senate to one vote. This means that Joe Bruno, the current Majority Leader in the NYS Senate, has to be sweating bullets - the GOP control of the Senate is basically the only thing standing between him and irrelevancy.

Yay Democrats.
Well, I haven't followed NYS politics too much (don't live there anymore), so I can't say anything for certain. The two major things that I know of that have been problems for him are Troopergate (a supposed plot to discredit Bruno - I think this election shows that Bruno really needs no help there) and the push to issue drivers licenses to illegals (which is actually a really good idea, but the xenophobic nativist movement are morons.)
