Dungeons

Here on the forums, people talk a lot about games, game characters, certain mechanisms, but I don't hear a lot about the dungeons or the levels themselves

it got me thinking, what's my favorite dungeon in ocarina of time? of any final fantasy? psychonauts, levels in halo, even disgaea? What makes these dungeons so good?

So, I ask you, what are some of your favorite dungeons? What makes them fun, challenging, and memorable?

Water/ice dungeons and sewer levels can burn in hell, unless it's the sewer stage from TMNT: Turtles in Time, which was rad.

It's weird but that's pretty much true, in mario 64 the most annoying levels were probably the water levels, similar for the water temple in OoT

    MY TOE MY TOE

So as to not completely derail this, I loved the Blackbird in Chrono Trigger, even I always cheated and made sure Ayla was in my party so I didn't have to find the weapons cache before I fought anything.

The first level in Deus Ex is magnificent. The statue of liberty is a beautiful sight but when you then realize there are hundreds of ways to tackle the obstacles in the level, the mind boggles. You run out of cover, guns blazing and then you die. Mmmm. So you regroup, look at what you've got as far as weapons are concerned, start using stealth and sometimes lethal force and the feeling is just awesome.

edit: Got to mention green hill zone from some game in the early nineties.

Every dungeon in Tales of Symphonia, because it was really refreshing to have short 10-20 minute dungeons but lots of them.
