My Nvidia 7600 locks up more than my car's brakes...?

So, some time ago I purchased a 7600GT OC, and have never been terribly happy with it. The bugger always seems to be locking up in the middle of games. This was most prevalent in Oblivion and Half Life 2. It will freeze, stutter and then start working again.
Driver updating seems to work until the game is patched, then it locks again. Lately Sins of a Solar Empire and Audiosurf have been the worst offenders. Audiosurf has me particularly confounded as even on the lowest graphics settings it still seems to lock up every couple of songs.
What should I be looking into/at in order to remedy this situation?

AMD Dual Core 4200
2 Gigs RAM
Nvidia 7600 GT OC (with Dec 19, 2007 drivers)
Windows XP, SP 2
Direct X 9.0c (latest release)
550w Power Supply
