I was in a hoity-toity furniture store a couple weeks back. Very "modern" furniture.
One of the constant decorations that adorned the shelves was some sort of water-based plant. Basically, they had decorated a lot of store with various clear vases with different loops, and in these water-filled vases were plants. Very pretty plants.
I'd like to locate said plants (probably not available at the local Home Depot or Lowes) and decorate my home with them.
I tried to ask a couple of salespeople about the plants, but they were very stupid and not only did they say I was the first person to ever ask them about the plants over the couple of years they've been open, they had no idea what the plants were.
Bamboo, maybe? It can grow in water, and you mentioned "loops", which reminds me of some of the shaped bamboo plants I've seen. The link has a picture of one that's been shaped into a helix.
I suggest you send the store an e-mail or call them and try to get in touch with whoever is responsible for buying and taking care of those plants. Someone in that store has to know what they are.
I'll go down and check it out as soon as I can. Which might be months.
Meanwhile, anyone have a good link to a page that lists plants that might be grown indoors using only water (and possibly light chemicals) that don't require soil?
