PS3 vs. PS3

I'm having difficulties on my home network playing LAN games (and multiplayer, for that matter) with two PS3's at a time.

Either one knocks the other off PSN, or if I can manage to get them both logged in simultaneously, they can't seem to connect to each other. Not reliably, anyway. It's worse with certain games. COD4, for example, is completely impossible to LAN game with.

I'm thinking it's possibly a router problem, but I'd like to get a better idea before I shell out more cash for a new router.

Has anybody else had a similar problem?

It's possible that PSN requires each PS3 to have its own, unique Internet facing IP address. If you have a NAT router that's sharing 1 IP address across both PS3s, you're boned. You'll need your ISP to provide a second IP and set up your router to allocate it to one of the PS3s and NAT the other. Hopefully your router is capable.

Basically I'm saying call up Sony and find out what the restrictions here are. No sense trying to fix something when you don't know what's wrong.

    Thanks for the help.

I've tried contacting Sony about this, I got no response beyond an automated acknowledgement of my query.

I'm not too well versed in network speak, but I have enough knowledge to understand what you're talking about. I'm really not sure what type of set-up my router has, but I'm guessing if it was the way you mentioned, I would think I couldn't online game at all with both consoles simultaneously? Or am I mistaken?

An easy way to start is to set the router not to use DHT. That way it will work like a switch and the ISP either will assign them both IP address or tell one of them to bugger off. Some ISP give a few IP address others (Comcast) only give one.

I've played with multiple PS3's behind a single router without problems, so it is definitely possible. It wasn't my own network, so I don't know about the used settings.
