Apple TV

So I recently got a HDtv and I'm thinking about getting an AppleTV.

But I'm not a 100% sure.

I have a few quick questions for anyone who has ever seen, or owned, one.

First, can I just drag and drop movies from my computer into this thing with a USB?

How good do they look? Do they come out looking 1080? or are they shitty quality?

Can I only add movies bought from iTunes, or can I add any movie I might have on my computer, as long as it's the right format?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Generally, if it plays in iTunes it will play on the apple TV, and it's pretty easy to get things to play in iTunes. It may be worth you spending the $29 for Quicktime Pro if you're going to convert a lot of stuff. They changed some things with the 2.0 release; before, it would sync w/ iTunes. Now, I believe it's more "wireless HDD that plays video," as in just dragging and dropping. From what I've read, it is pretty simple.

Movies rented from the thing are 720p, and generally look pretty good. Close to BluRay, a little better than DVD. Here's a comparison:
