Setting up Xbox 360 live-How?

Hello,

I have an xbox 360 and cable internet. Since I wish to combine these two wonderful things I was thinking of getting xbox 360 live.

The cable internet is in the basement, because the cable connection runs through the basement. The Xbox 360 is upstairs in the warm living areas. Damn Midwest winters.

Can I get some advice on connecting them?

I reckon that I will need a wireless router, Xbox 360 wireless adapter, and one of the Xbox 360 live membership cards.

Am I right or am I missing things?

Also, how do you get the Xbox 360 headsets to work. When I connected the original one I got when I bought the premium package, I never got sound or any game sounds to go through it.

Hate to use this place for personal technical questions, but I can't think of anywhere I would rather trust to get answers for these kinds of questions.

Unless you have a really good reason for not doing so, you're much better off taking the time and running cable to the point where the 360 will be hooked up. If you can't, then I would advise avoiding the 360's adaptor, as it's a ripoff. For cheaper, you can buy a Netgear wireless bridge/print server, which will allow you to interface multiple items to the network.

You can get a Silver membership for free, but if you want to play online, you'll need a Gold membership. You can buy it either by purchasing a membership card or online. Finally, the headsets are strictly for VoIP.

Some games do tricks like having your AI teammates speak into the headset, but if you want to hear xbox 360 sound through a voice headset, there's one that costs around a hundred bucks. It has 5.1 or something.

Thanks. I wanted to ask, whats VoIP?

I have heard of VoIP, but I have never had it explained to me.

He doesn't mean VoIP (voice over IP) in the phone-call sense, he means that the headsets are only for voice chat; as far as I'm aware, there are no game sounds that go through the normal headset (there are other headsets you can buy that do this, the one I've seen is around a hundred bucks)

And yeah, I'd highly recommend trying to run a cable if you can; the wireless stuff is either a pain in the butt or expensive, depending which way you go about doing it

    *edit

For live Gold - you can use a credit card and just pay for it through live itself, the only advantage of buying a card is either to pay cash, or if you can find a deal/coupon to use in a store (fairly common if you frequent some type of deal-listing website)
