I'm looking for some games to tide me over since I've beaten what I own right now and am left with just Rock Band for a while (which I don't want to wear out).

I'd like to find a good JRPG to sink my teeth into, or possibly an RTS, but am really open to anything (not so big on FPS games but I'll give them a shot of they're good..and easy). Here is an example of the types of games I play:

Games I like (stars denote favourites):
Chrono Trigger*
Chrono Cross
FFVI
FFVII*
FFX*
Metal Gear Solid 1*, 2 and 3
Shadow of the Colossus
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune*
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Diablo II w/ expansion
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 w/ expansion*
Warcraft II w/ expansion
STALKER
Age of Empires 1 and 2
Fallout 1 and 2

Games I don't like:
FFVIII (this game made me give up on the FF series until last year when I finally played X)
FFXII (bored by the characters, setting and story)
Warcraft III
Starcraft
Oblivion (boring. see FFXII)

I have played and beat COD4, Assassin's Creed, and Heavenly Sword, will be borrowing Folklore later, and currently I'm trying to get a copy of Xenogears and Bushido Blade off of Goozex. Also, later this month I will have a PSP and Crisis Core, but I'd like something to play at home since the PSP will be mostly for travelling.

I'm more looking for a classic PS1 JRPG in the vein of FFVII, though since PS1 games are hard to find around here, I'm not going to be too picky. Suggest away!

    • Suikoden III - PS2 - By far the best story in a JRPG I have ever experienced. So well written that the lack of voice acting is almost irrelevant (and I'm someone who's big about voice acting).
    • Dark Cloud 2 - PS2 - Interesting gameplay mechanics, more of an action RPG but still a fun game with a nice story
    • Xenosaga - PS2 - Definitely not for everyone with its major focus on story, but a great game nonetheless and second only to Suikoden in story quality
    • Katamari Damacy - PS2 - You can probably pick this up for next to nothing, it's short but fun and engaging
    • Ico - PS2 - From the makers of Shadow of the Colossus, hard to find but a great, beautiful game
    • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - PS2 - Story is definitely on the unusual side but is still interesting nonetheless
    • Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday - PC - OK, most people hate this game but it's easy to find for dirt cheap and is incredibly engaging if you're interested at all in the more in-depth details of World War II and can handle a game that is basically Axis and Allies but even more detailed. Axis and Allies : Risk :: Hearts of Iron : Axis and Allies.
    • Disgaea - PS2 - Strategy RPG with a surprisingly fun story, but has by far the largest amount of sidequests I've ever seen. Probably more fun to just play through the story and not bother with the timesink that is everything else.
    • Dragon Quest VIII - PS2 - Very traditional RPG but very fun and engaging story

Company of Heroes, hands-down the best RTS I've ever played. It's going to be a hard standard to live up to. Runner-up is Dawn of War, which has many of the same mechanics but not to the same degree.

OK, Sins of a Solar Empire is a sweet, sweet RTS.

FirstComradeStalin, which Xenosaga are you referring to? Apparently there are 3 of them. I'm under the assumption that it is necessary to play all 3 in order, but my local EB only has the 3rd one.

Will be borrowing Suikoden 3 from a friend though, and on the lookout for ICO.

CoH and SoSE look interesting. I'll have to see how much they're going for around here.

    Psychonauts
    Okami
    C&C3

Have you played orange box? There is no better value in gaming right now. You said you're not too big on FPS's, but Portal and TF2 aren't your standard FPS experience. And HL2 and episodes are a blast to fly through on easy.

I've been wanting to try TF2. Is it sold stand-alone? I'm not that interested in HL2 (I own the first one and still haven't gotten out of Black Mesa after the experiment explodes and all the alien things show up). I don't want to pick it up on the PS3 because I'm awful at FPS with analog sticks.

And speaking of Okami, I was just looking at picking it up to trade on Goozex, heh (24.99 at EB, 800 points on Goozex which is the equivalent of 40.00. Score!) so I might as well give it a run through before I trade it.

I'll see if I can borrow C&C3 from someone. How does it compare to RA2 and Generals? I played Generals at a LAN center once but I found it was a lot slower than RA2, and I prefer RA2's speed.

I'm pretty sure all of the orange box stuff can be gotten individually through steam, but not in stores. I'm guessing TF2 and Portal would add up to close to the whole box, so it would probably be worth it to get everything. And you'd probably enjoy HL2 more than you think. Oh, and don't get orange box on the consoles, TF2 is gimped on them.

I haven't really played RA2 or Generals, but C&C3 is deffinitely fast. You have access to pretty much all units within 10 or 15 minutes, and the battles get pretty epic within the same amount of time.
