iTunes implodes when run

So, I updated iTunes today in order to make use of my fancy new gift card. The version I've been using is probably 1-2 years old, so I was fine with getting the new version anyways. Long story short, I download the music, everything's fine, I burn half a CD and then it locks up. Now, every time I try to restart iTunes (and anything else running) locks up. I have a feeling there's an issue with it looking for something online, as it always says "accessing iTunes store" in the process of locking up.

I've done a repair install, uninstall/reinstall, no dice. Perhaps it's looking for something online and my install isn't showing it where to go, but this really doesn't make any sense given what I've done so far (I redownloaded the installer so nothing should be corrupted).

Suggestions/alternatives? I'm not stuck on iTunes by any means, but it has been a convenient way to keep everything sorted and burn CDs for driving, as opposed to Windows media player which has been a bit less friendly.

EDIT: Solved! Protip: Delete all of iTunes droppings if it breaks, they just send it into a backspin again.

Have you tried doing a clean reinstall?

I had a similar problem a year ago and I never figured out what caused it. I just threw away the half-burned CD and reinstalled and it's worked fine since then.

EDIT: Something occured to me just now. I actually did figure out what caused it and it was related to my CD-R drive. Try playing music straight off of a CD and see if your CD drive works fine.
