So I just got engaged to a wonderful woman. The wedding is still a ways off (Summer 2009), but I am going to need to create a website for the event (the usual information, post-pictures, etc). I do software development for a living, and though I'm not terribly experienced with css and new-style web development, I do have the capabilities. What I don't have is a great talent at designing good looking layouts. It was suggested to me that I can pay theknot.com or some other site to create the page for me, but that is sort of an affront to my ego as a geek and software developer. I am fully aware that it will take a lot of time and effort on my part, much more than the equivalent amount of money spent on a canned template on some wedding site.
My question is, has anyone made these kinds of sites for their wedding? Is there a good source of free wedding website templates? Thanks!
edit: I already have hosting I use for other projects, so it is just a matter of getting a nice design.
Yeah... I was in the same boat... my fiance at the time wanted to just get a Knot website... and I was like "hell no, I can make a freaking website..."
So I threw up a simple one with info and pictures and whatnot. Also had an online RSVP to a database. Then after the event we threw up a bunch of pictures on there as well.
I made a website when my wife and I got married as well. Even if you don't know a lot about web development, it's really easy. I've done a lot of web development though, so I wanted to fancy it up a bit :P I included maps on where the reception/ceremony where, information on how to contact us, links to our registries, etc. It's a fun little project for a geek like us.
The wedding page on theknot is free (I've somehow got two); you get it as soon as you create an account. That being said, it works fine for the purpose but isn't terribly impressive. If you want to make your own, more power to you!

Certainly not the greatest, but I wouldn't have put up with one of the more generic ones I've seen a lot.
