Two Worlds for $10...Yea or Nay?

Looks like Two Worlds has been slashed to $9.99 on Steam, and I'm tempted to buy it. But I remember reading about some pretty decent bugs when it was released.

Has the game been fixed enough to make it worth playing? Is it worth $10?

The PC version works much better than the 360 version, and the patches have helped a good deal. 10 bucks is most definitely a good price for the amount of content in the game. Just don't be expecting the world's most amazing RPG, as it's kind of goofy. The weapon stacking system is pretty darn fun though, and the branching paths give it some replayability. There's also an entirely separate multiplayer world which you can play in single player if you want.

I borrowed the 360 game from my brother recently and played the hell out it. If the idea of an offline MMORPG appeals to you then it's definitely worth the money. However, if the PC version is anything like the 360 one then don't expect anyone to be online to play with.

I got it for the 360 too and I thought it was a hell of a lot of fun. It's certainly a 9.99 game. But not a 10.00 game if you see what I am saying.

Is it an absurd amount of content for $10 ? Yes. Is it fun? Not for me. I hardly ever complain about such things but the voice acting is terrible and the graphics ( I played it on the 360) remind me of an N64 game. After getting out of the starting "dungeon" I popped it back in to get 2 easy achievements so that I could redeem my purchase. I say get yourself a cheap copy of Oblivion instead mate, but that is just my opinion.

The game is an acquired taste, I suppose. :) If you're the kind of person who is looking for a sweeping epic, perfection in every seam, Two Worlds isn't the game for you. Some people need Blizzard, Bioware, or Bethesda production quality (interesting how all the greats begin with the letter B!). If you have some time to spare and you want to cavort in a massive and pretty game world, slaying monsters, and finding better loot or combining your gear to form better equipment, then Two Worlds is a great game for ten dollars.

It does have some hilariously bad voice acting - although I have to admit it kind of grew on me - and strange fighting animations, but I enjoyed it none-the-less. It also has multiplayer, and if you do get it I'd be willing to quest with you online.

I played and beat it, it was ok. I'm a loot whoring bitch though you loves to look pretty in his shiny armor. In terms of story it's ok nothing great, combat is glitchy funny at times. The loot and item stacking is cool however spells are horrible to use...

Thanks for the recommendations...I picked it up last night, and I think paying $10 was the right way to go on this. Any more and I'd have felt a little cheated. :p

But I think I'll get my money's worth out of it!

I'd have sooner spent the $10 on a stapler and as many staples as I could get and then proceeded to empty the stapler into my arms and legs until I was out of staples.

But that's just me. I think that game was horrible garbage.

I actually bought this game brand new (full price) and almost returned it. I played the hell out of it and enjoyed it far more than Oblivion. It doesn't have the polish, but the old english sub-par voice acting didn't bother me and I never once encountered any real glitches. Its a solid pick-up that a bunch of people hated for some reason....

    Maybe I'm just weird.

Nice to see you picked it up. It's not a full price type game, but definitely worth $10. Only thing I can add is make sure you've got the latest patched version (which is a given I suppose).

As for a little gameplay tip ... try to assemble full suits of a particular armor set (541, 565, etc ... shows in the item info). If you have all five pieces of a set, you get extra bonus added to your armor ratings.

The quest itself is very open-ended, at least after the first couple hours or so. Making progress is more than a simple matter of traveling from place to place marked on your map. Instead you'll need to take on many side-quests to build your reputation in order to make the allies you need to achieve your goal.

That sounds awesome. How much truth to it?

You can run straight to the final boss, who's incredibly close to the starting point, and immediately kill him, thus beating the game.

Yeah but that's lame and no one is just going to do that. There's huge amount of territory and side-quests to conquer. As far as reputation, having a high reputation will open up new towns and quests for you, as well as giving you better prices in their shops. You'll want to earn certain factions trust if you want to gain access to headquarters and towns. You can actually align yourself with a few groups in the game. Joining one won't exactly make you friends with another.

... and you can do the same in Fallout, Metroid, Morrowind - and probably many others. I might consider it a plus. Though I'd've said, "thus ending the game".

The last time I bought a Steam Special, it was Vampire: Bloodlines last Halloween. Didn't go wrong then, so I think I'll give this one a shot. Thanks, guys.

I really do not reccommend this game...I was really, really excited about it, and really REALLY tried to enjoy it, but I did not have a single moment of fun the whole time...I think they tried to do alot of stuff and failed to achieve an underlying fun factor...but your mileage may vary. It just definitely wasn't for me, and I had no desire to wade through hours of not-fun in order to find the hidden "gem" I've heard is there. So thats my opinion, take it with a grain of salt because like I say, I didn't get as far into it as some have.

    First impressions:

Not bad. About what I was expecting, performace/graphics wise - far more vibrant, actually. Am hoping it'll have a lot more varied terrain.
Really like the idea behind the spell boosters, though I don't know how in depth that'll get.

Minor quibbles so far - I had to register the game, after I bought it. This means I can only choose one gender for all my characters.
    Character selection seems non-existant.
Maybe I missed an opening cinematic somehow, but it dropped me into a dungeon tutorial and told me to kill some critters. Slightly confusing.
Also, everything in the game hates me. It'd be nifty to watch a wolf stalk and kill a boar, but as soon as I get within 5 ft of either, both jump me.

    Neutral:
It's less 'lol, bad voice acting', and more 'oddly translated, then dubbed'

I'm pretty sure you can only play a male character in the single player game. I don't know about multiplayer though since I've yet to try it.

Having to register is a little weird, but they do e-mail you a code for a bonus item. Granted, you can just look the code up on GameFAQs or something, but it's still an interesting touch.

There is an opening cinematic. It's pretty terrible (I hate pre-recorded in-engine custscenes. What's the point? Just make them in the damned engine then, stop stretching your horrible 640x480 render on my gorgeous 1600x1200 screen), complete with bad voice acting and utter lack of lipsync. You missed nothing.

    Yes it is.

Everything I have read on the game said bows are only really usefull for taking out weak mobs from range. To actually do any real fighting you need melee or magic. Probably go with melee since you took bow. Magic + Bow is kinda a stupid combo since they are both ranged.

I'll also add that my enjoyment of the game went up substantially when I went back and restarted on the easy difficulty. That plus learning that the 'Q' key does a little hop backwards, which makes the combat feel a little more exciting.

I'm enjoying it. If I could figure out how to make my horse work better, I'd enjoy it more. Some arcane combination of turning with a and d, but moving the mouse sometimes helps and sometimes gives me an anneurysm.

Did something I found amusing earlier:
I'm trying to find some necromancers, so I can get accepted and learn their secrets. So I scan the horizon, and I see an evil-looking tower; I ride towards it, and begin seeing undead wolves and bears and such. This appears promising, so I continue forward and run into some necromancers. "Awesome", I think. "Now, to communicate; after all", I continue, "I did some quests and they think of me as a helpful aide". I enter the shadow of the tower ... and immediately turn around and ride very quickly the other way, as these necromancers are far more interested in killing me than talking. :(

    Necromancer thiefs = epic win

Why? Well, go right up to a locked door, and face it. Summon a skeleton(or other summons work too, tried reapers), and it will appear inside the locked area. Walk a few feet away, the summon will open it for you, then feel free to enter at will.

Big fucking NAY. I wouldn't pick this game up if they paid me $10 to do so.

I have never seen such hideous character models. Oh gods, that guy in the intro with a potato for a head. The talking potato haunts my nightmares!

Everything on the back of the box is a lie. The game looks like ass. There is next to no character customization. Combat really sucks.

Some games in a similar genre that are actually worth $10: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Morrowind or Oblivion (with mods they looks so much better than this game).

Okay so the game isn't the best looking there is.

And also the game has horrible voice acting and some goth rock song for some weird reason.

And for god's sake they proven how much they hate the world to design the horse controls like that.

And let's not forget the bugs, like the one where I HAD TO DELETE ALL MY SAVES BECAUSE THEY KEPT FREEZING ON ME OH YEAH AND EVEN NEW GAMES WOULD FREEZE SO I HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CLEAR MY 360'S CACHE WITHOUT FORMATTING MY HARD DRIVE THANKS YOU ASSHOLES.

And yet, I can't get enough of it. I can't even explain WHY I can't get enough of it just that I have fun playing it and it's so big and I'm a sucker for big games (penis reference here) and ooh look at the lizard mounts!

And sometimes, on very rare occasions, it can be very pretty.

So yeah, I bought the game. Oh wait I bought the game TWICE I mean. Because first I got the 360 version but then I saw the PC Collector's edition which had a map on sale and had to have that too.

I make no excuses, but I must confess my sin about loving this game.
